Brief info about the 9-18 Conquest Sailing

We hope for the best for the overboard cruiser and his family. The event happened late on Friday and it did put a damper things.

However, we did meet great fellow cruisers and had a good relaxing vacation.

Some observations of the 9-18 cruise on the Conquest. Note we have cruised this same ship and itenarary once before. I am focusing a few items that are current things. For a full cruise descriptions, the cruise review area is great. Also I wil answer any questions that I can.

We were delayed embarcing because of a medical emergency on the previous cruise. We were allowed into an air conditioned waiting area with seating at about 11. The facility had a restroom and we were provided a snack of chips and bottled water. A little before 1 we were called by group to board. Typical lines to get through security and to do the onboard account. Rooms were ready when we arrived on the ship. To me Carnival handled this change well.

Lunch Buffet seemed to have changed a bit. They have 4 serving lines in addition to the specialy buffet items like deli, fish and chips, etc. And all 4 lines had exactly the same food. I remember two having the theme of the day and two others have standard buffet fare. Overall I thought the buffet was pretty typical, always found a good choice plus the specialty areas provided plenty of variety. Breakfast buffet has omelet/egg stations in three spots which usually made for a pretty short line.Dinner buffet is a subset of the MDRs servings so we usually opt for the MDR.

MDR had the new menus. Our table of 10 was filled with 5 couples who were repeat cruisers. Most of us ordered two entrees most nights. Most of the time we were pleased. There were a few issues; the biggest one was baked potatoes were not hot and the fixings arrived late. So in my opinion the MDR did just fine; I don't expect perfection. We enjoyed our dinners with excellent service.

Live entertainment was a bit lacking. Shows were the same as a year and half ago, they were ok for one viewing but not good enough for repeats. The live music was available at good times and often. We did not like the duo singing to CDs, they may have been good as a duo but singing to a prerecorded CD is pretty much a form of karaoke. Also the rock band played older country/rock songs so if you were looking for contempary music your only choice was the disco. We enjoyed the Salsa band but they were pure Latin music. No crossovers to Latin Pop music that we heard.

Fellow passengers seemed to have a great time, seemed to be a diverse crowd having fun. The few children onboard were mainly in the pool area and the buffet having a great time. Never any problem we saw.

Just a few of my personal observations.

My general opinion is that I love the Conquest and hope to cruise her again. The staff is great. The value provided is good. And it is a FUN ship!

I just remembered that I had promised to report on the new smoking policies.

The indoor public areas including the piano bar and sports bar were smoke free. However, the casino smoke did not stay in the smoking area :)

Did observe serveral smokers on the port side outside, no one said anything to them, including me (just not into confrontations).

Our cabin on deck two had smoke coming in very regularly from next door and from the ac. I'm guessing we had smokers next door who smoked in their cabin alot which may be a result of the new limitations. I am glad that Carnival will soon not allow smoking in cabins otherwise this might have been our last Carnival cruise, we just are not used to smelling any smoke anymore.

So all and all a thumbs up on the smoking policy change.

We will be on the Conquest in March and I am so glad to hear the piano bar and sports bar were smoke free.

Almost didn't book a cruise because the last cruise we were on was so filled with smoke everywhere. Couldn't walk around on the Promenade deck without inhaling smoke. Luckily, I heard that Carnival had changed its smoking policy. Makes me feel so much better about it now.
