DISNEY1975 Posted February 23, 2013 #355 Share Posted February 23, 2013 The lido lunch theme today was American food. Part of that buffet was cornbread, or at least Carnival’s interpretation of what they think cornbread is. I have lived in Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia. I’m 110% southern girl. I know good cornbread. I need my southern folks to back me up here. This is cornbread. This is also cornbread. THIS IS NOT CORNBREAD!!! Ok, technically it is cornbread because it’s bread with corn on top. However, you can’t put that in front of someone from the south and not expect to get flamed. Paula Deen would have a fit if she tasted this. Even without the corn on top, the bread wasn’t that good. It tasted very “doughy”, like it wasn’t baked long enough. I’d like to make a deal with the Carnival chefs. Feel free to fly into Atlanta one day. I’ll pick you up from the airport and drive you up 85N to Peachtree Street, where our final destination will be Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles. We’ll order a basket of cornbread and dish on Dancing With The Stars and you can show me pictures of your kids. On the drive back to the airport, I’ll take you around the 285 loop to This Is It Soul Food and get you a couple dozen corn muffins to snack on for your plane ride back. You’ll be back in Florida in time for sailaway. This will give you a taste of good, southern cornbread. I never thought I’d be writing a dissertation on cornbread, but this needed to be said. :) Im from the north and this is disturbing! We may not know "great cornbread", but werent not stupid to think a biscuit with creamed corn on top is edible. Blllahhhh....
Windinmahair Posted March 9, 2013 #356 Share Posted March 9, 2013 Excellent! I do want to get more involved with Susan G. Komen...my grandmother died of breast cancer back in 1989. I was just a kid then. I am so out of shape, I need to set a goal. Training for a 5K seems like an attainable goal to me. Keep up the great work! There is a Couch to 5K app you might like if you have a smart phone. Good luck! :)

Rockee4055 Posted April 12, 2013 #358 Share Posted April 12, 2013 After dinner, my mom went to the casino. Romy and I went to the comedy shows of Allyn Ball and Lewis Nixon. I think I’ve seen them both on previous cruises. Whichever one makes the State Farm joke, I know I’ve seen him before. After the comedy shows, we headed to the disco for some dancing. I wasn’t planning on having another drink because I wanted to get up early in the morning for a workout, but when I realized it was 2 am and I wasn’t leaving any time soon, I said screw it and had another, ummm, what did I have? :D We shut the disco down around 3 am and everyone headed up to the lido for some pizza. I called it a night around 4:45 am. :eek:Dinner entertainment from our servers. My outfit of the night. One Small Step Dance Club. It was busy all but one night. Up next: Fun day at sea! I am really loving your review. The pics are awesome and I am sitting here envious about having to wait 49 days, 23 hours, 14 minutes and 30 some seconds...make that 20 some seconds. gapearl Posted April 12, 2013 Author #359 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Wow I'm just noticing these older comments! :o Hi, just wanted to say thank you for putting together such a detailed review with photos. I enjoyed reading very much. I am going on the Glory for a 7 day Western Carribean in a few days and now I am even more excited after looking at your review. Thanks again! I think I remember you commenting on my other review. Sorry I'm just noticing your comments here, but thanks! LOL Im from the north and this is disturbing! We may not know "great cornbread", but werent not stupid to think a biscuit with creamed corn on top is edible. Blllahhhh.... Biscuit with creamed corn, LOL. I bet everyone has been going on their cruise to the buffet looking for this now. :p There is a Couch to 5K app you might like if you have a smart phone. Good luck! :) There are so many good training apps out there now. I made a mistake and kind of winged it when training for the half. I'm now using a training program from a free app to get ready for a 10K, and so far my speed has increased by almost a minute a mile in less than a month, compared to what I was running before. They work! :)

sewut Posted October 14, 2013 #363 Share Posted October 14, 2013 I'm reading all your reviews in order and just finished this one. My DH and I LOL at the cornbread pictures. He's from SC and I'm from RI. When we first got married (over 43 years ago) he asked me to make cornbread. I made cornbread like your first picture. He said, "No, that's not cornbread, that's corn muffin!" I told him that corn muffins were baked in a muffin pan and looked like cupcakes. He told me that cornbread was flat and round and fried in a cast iron frying pan. I told him that was johnnycakes. We definitely had a language problem. lol My poor kids, if they picked up something that they shouldn't, I would tell them to put it back, or put it down. DH would tell them to put it up! It's been interesting. Love your reviews, and now I'm on to the next one.
hoover15 Posted November 18, 2014 #364 Share Posted November 18, 2014 My 4yr old baby girl and I are going on the Splendor next month for a daddy/daughter week and we have cabin 7206 booked. Just curious, is there no way at all to get the beds moved side by side?
cruisexlife Posted October 21, 2015 #365 Share Posted October 21, 2015 Kim, Hello! I recently booked another cruise on Splendor (spa interior and Amber Cove, woohoo!), and I remembered that you cruised on Valor out of Miami on the standard Eastern Caribbean route, so I decided to drop back and read it. Great review! Thanks so much for writing it. I also wanted to make sure I wished you an AMAZING cruise to Asia. I know how much you love cultural immersion, and you're in for a huge surprise, as Asian culture is like no other. I really look forward to the port/pre-cruise review, but I also can't wait for your Royal Caribbean review, as I have been considering for a while to jump ship, and try RCI, just for a new experience. Enjoy your trip, I cannot wait for the review! :D

cruiselife4me Posted December 22, 2015 #367 Share Posted December 22, 2015 Another great review Kim! I agree with the cornbread. My family is from Kentucky, Alabama and that is NOT cornbread. And it's like the easiest stuff to make!?? Thanks again, Mary
cruzin Phillis Posted March 25, 2016 #368 Share Posted March 25, 2016 Well I’m at it again! I just stepped off the Carnival Valor at 8:30 this morning after another AWESOME cruise. In fact, this might be my best cruise ever. We’re flying home tomorrow and I’m sitting at my hotel now, tired with nothing to do and recovering from this past week’s craziness, so I thought I’d get started on my review. It will be written entirely in pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Traveling were me, Kim, age 31, and my mom, Dorothy, age.... more than 31. (She's not a fan of the internet, so I won't be posting any pictures of her. She found out through some friends that I posted pictures on facebook from our last cruise and wasn't happy about it.) This was her 2nd Carnival cruise and my 6th. I had invited some of my cousins and my aunt to come along, but they all bailed when it was time to put down deposit money. You know how that goes. Well the original plan was to do a 5 day cruise with them, but since they weren’t coming, I convinced my mom to do a 7 day and she told me to pick the itinerary I wanted. The Victory southern was out because it would be WAY too port intensive for her. The Legend and Liberty were out because they were western itineraries my vacation week, and my last 4 cruises were western. That left the Dream and the Valor for an eastern. The Dream had 3 ports and was considerably more expensive than the Valor’s 4 port itinerary, so the Valor won by default! Our stops included Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. Look, I am so sorry for posting 5 years later. However, I just discovered your review and had to comment on good and informative they are!!! I totally understand when it comes to people who decide when the deposit is due that they do not want to go.:eek:This happen to me on a couple of occasions with friends which is why I am making the decision to go solo!!! If you need a partner in cruising...thats me!!
