Question about Nassau and Atlantis (the Dig)

Hi.

I'm going on the Jewel in Novemeber and I want to explore the Dig at Atlantis and just roam around. I'm not interested in the water park at Atlantis so I was going to buy that $59 ticket that NCL offers. But as I was reading the details, it mentions a guided tour which I'm not fully interested in.

"Immerse yourself in the legend of Atlantis during this exciting excursion. After an approximately 25-minute bus transfer to Paradise Island, you'll be escorted to the resort for a guided exploration of Atlantis, to experience the most mystifying and spectacular resort to have risen from the sea. Discover the world's largest marine habitat, and view over 50,000 sea animals representing 200 different species. Also explore the Dig, which will reveal how Atlantean culture flourished over 11,000 years ago. Come to discover a continent in just one day at Atlantis Paradise Island. At the conclusion of the guided portion of the tour, you'll have some time on your own to return to the Dig and its exhibits, shop at the Marina Village, visit the casino, explore the hotel's grand lobby or have a bite to eat at your own expense"

Anyone know of a way that will just get us access to the Dig without the guided tour or is that the only way??

I also saw another option "Discover Atlantis & Beach Break " and from the description, it looks like it's letting you explore the Dig on your own but I don't wanna spend the extra money if there's a way to buy a ticket to the Dig another way, or when I get there... That option is about $79 per person, but I just want to see if anyone else has any other suggestions.

"Your experience begins with a 25-minute bus transfer to the Atlantis Resort at Paradise Island. Upon arrival, you'll be escorted to a reserved location on the beach where you'll be provided a beach lounge chair and towel to bask in the sun and a self-guided map which will help you find your way around the resort. You can enjoy shopping at a variety of unique stores, gaming in the Atlantis Casino or visit the Dig, a unique marine habitat that is home to more than 50,000 marine life. Water bikes, peddle boats, kayaks, water hammocks and snorkeling equipment are all available for an additional charge. "

Thanks,

Nicole:D

This might help you?

Access to all Atlantis marine habitats and Aquaventure Waterpark are FREE for guests staying at the resort. Passes may be purchased by day visitors, but availability is limited – and may be closed – during periods of high resort occupancy.

Sounds like you could get in if you go to Atlantis on your own. But also could be closed, and with ship/ships in, the chances of that go up. Sounds like you take a chance, or spend the money for a guarantee?

I'm okay with spending the money to be sure I get to see the Dig, I just don't care for the idea of having a guided tour when its not required.... Do you know where you purchase those day passes besides via the ship? I couldn't find on Atlantis' website anything about purchasing it ahead of time with them direct....

I'm not sure when you will be in Nassau but it appears to be the week before Thanksgiving. With that being said, I think there is a good chance that you will be able to purchase day passes for The Dig. If it was Thanksgiving week I would be concerned. Also, purchasing the day pass from Atlantis is cheaper than what is being offered by the cruise line (which is generally the case). I think I read the price for access to The Dig is about $35/per person. Transportation to Atlantis is about $4 per person each way. The taxis are right at the pier when you get off the ship and right outside of Atlantis when you are ready to leave, so you don't have to worry about finding transportation.

You can purchase tickets to the Digs directly from Atlantis. Just go to the kiosk in the casino to buy the tickets. When we bought them, they cost $35. I've read on the Bahamas board that they cost $39 now but I don't know that for sure.

You don't have to take the guided tour. Once you buy your passes, you are free to explore at your own pace. Make sure you get over to the Predator Lagoon - it's pretty neat.

With the Digs pass, you do not have access to the beach, pools or waterpark but you can see a lot of the property. It's huge - take good walking shoes. :)

You can also buy the Beach Day pass directly from Atlantis. We've done that also. It cost $60 and included lunch at one of grills.

This would be my suggestion also. Take a taxi to Atlantis ($4 per person, each way) then just pay for a pass that includes what you want to see. The Dig passes were $39 when we were there in March.

I would not try to buy tickets ahead separate from the cruise line. Last November, we were scheduled to stop in Nassau and we had booked the Atlantis day pass through the ship. The water was somewhat "choppy" that day and the captain made the decision NOT stop at Nassau. We were looking SOOO forward to going to Atlantis... husband got a glimpse (the tall buildings... resort) as I was down in the room pre-packing for our next day departure. Needless to say, I'll have to get there some other way (added again to my bucket list). Glad we booked through the cruise line... refund was immediately posted to our onboard account. Still makes me :( that we weren't able to stop.
