Will I be bored?

Please understand that this is my first cruise and I just don't know what to expect.

I usually like to do everything and see everything while on vacation. I don't like a lot of 'down time'. I just don't want to miss anything! We are going to Alaska's Inside Passage. I want to see and take pictures of everything, especially wildlife. According to our schedule, we are to "curise the Queen Charlotte Islands" but I can't find anyone to tell me if we can see much on the islands, how close we get, etc. Anything I should be especially looking for?

I don't care too much for bingo, casinos and the like. I can do that at home!

I am just way too excited and have an unnatural need to know everything before I go!

I guess I will pack a couple of books since I do like to read and don't have much time for it at home. If I have to relax and de-stress, I will, I guess. But that's just not me!!!

I can tell you are excited about this cruise, I am not really sure what you are asking though. Everyone is different of course, I can't read while on the cruise, I am afraid I am going to miss something so I would rather sit and people watch, or just watch the ocean. My wife always reads a book or two. I don't know how anyone can be bored, there is just so much to do AND doing nothing counts as something because you are on vacation and relaxing.

Don't try to "do everything" because you can't but after the first day you should have a good idea of what may interest you. We went on two cruises before we found out how much fun we would have playing the trivia games, so now we look for those. We don't play bingo, or spend much time in the casino (we live 3 hours from Reno) and we always manage to stay busy.

I do not know anything about the islands you mention so can't help you there. Just take it easy, try to keep yourself open to trying new things, and have a great time. Alaska is beautiful, we are going on our second NEXT MONTH, I have been waiting 7 months to say that.

We will be on the same sailing as Catmand and I just about guarantee you will enjoy yourself. I am not sure whether you will see anything of the Queen Cahrlotte Islands but as you get up further in the Inside Passage there is a section between Juneau and Scagway that you can see things on shore. There is usually ship traffic, many things to do on board and I just enjoy people watching. I have been on 7th cruises and there is always something to do. Check out your daily newletter which is delivered to your room and there is all sorts of activities there. I truly hope you have a great cruise, in fact I know you will.

it sounds like you have already made up your mind to be bored and not have anything to do  ( i say this because many of the things passengers love to do on the ship are things you said you will avoid because you can do them at home). yes, there will be '' down time '' ( the best part of the cruise as far as im concerned ) as you sail all day going by the islands and being in the glaciers. but this is when you take in the beauty and awesome sites there is too offer. i would book all the high energy tours you can while in the ports so you can be active then. and on the ship there are the shows and other things you can do too keep busy. it is up too the passengers attitude whether they will be bored or not. dont be afraid to dance the night away and have fun. i also bring a good book to read ( i am always so excited about what i will do the next day it helps me fall asleep when i go to bed). you will love alaska and all it has too offer im sure. im sure when you return home and remember the great time you had you will be glad you went. have a wonderful time.

On an Alaska cruise you will have a lot of down time. You will take some fantastic photos and see some great sights but there is a lot of down time. And yes I went to alot of the seminars, took fitness classes confirmed I don't like yoga, read a lot went to the spa and worked on my computer went to the shows. If you are used to doing ALOT by day three you will be forced to unwind. Alaska was great but a bit slow. But hey go with the flow and enjoy yourself. There may be more activities on your ship (I took NCL Sky)

Thanks, everyone.

I really don't have my mind set to be bored. I just want to see something every minute of the day and night! If I sit and read or people watch or just enjoy the ocean, I can deal with it. I am just not used to relaxing much on vacation. I like to be on the go, but actually I have been having some physical problems and don't have the endurance that I usually do. Maybe a nice relaxing few days is just what I need.

We anticipated our Alaska cruise for over a year, once it came it seemed it was over way too soon. I always find there is so much to do we never have enough time to do it all on a cruise. Alaska is anything but boring.

Just like me!. You will be bored if you let yourself be.. it is all in your head most of the time. Meet people, talk to them. I bet there are people on yoru cruise who have cruised this itinerary before and can help you out a lot. You don't want to do the things you do at home but you might enjoy them onboard. Try new things.. you will not be dissapointed. Most of the time (not all of the time, trust me) bad reviews stem from bad attitudes. Have fun, let things go (I know that is hard, but you really need to.. I know it is a struggle for me) and go with the flow. Don't lock yourself in your cabin. If you find yourself getting bored then make a pact "If I think, I am bored, then I have to go introduce myself to 5 new people".. You will have plenty to do before you know it...
