Snorkel st thomas or st john usvi

We snorkelled in Grand Cayman and Turks and Caicos last year and were thrilled by the variety of fish and coral we saw (another world down there!!). This year with Holland America, we can snorkel from St Thomas to ship wreck cove at Buck Island or go to St John and snorkel at Trunk Bay. We could also choose to be dropped off at Cruz Bay on St John and if so, are there any good snorkelling spots we could walk to from there. Also any private snorkelling trips you would recommend. Any help would be very much appreciated.

The best snorkeling of my life was at St John USVI at Trunk Bay. The water was so clear and the snorkeling was amazing. We booked the excursion through our boat and took a water taxi to st John and then took a bus to Trunk Bay. Most amazing place I have ever seen. So beautiful!

My vote is cast for Buck Island

I would go with St John and look into booking a private sail / snorkel trip. We did "Survivan" last year and it was one of the best days ever. The snorkel sites were incredible.

Trunk is nice but with a little effort you can get to some GREAT sites. Any tour that works with you schedule will be better than the ships trip. St John is very easy to get around.

I was snorkeling at Trunk Bay on the day Casper posted the above. It is exactly as Casper says -- absolutely perfect for snorkeling. Our party saw a barracuda, a turtle, a jellyfish, two rays, and countless colorful fish. You must go there if you get the chance.

I would highly recommend snorkelling in St. John's in Honeymoon Bay. Took the St. John's Champagne Catamaran tour that NCL offers, there were only 21 people on the boat and they took us to the most amazing site. Saw everything from Sea Turtles, lobsters, Sea Urchins, to many types of fish to name, as well we even saw ?nurse/lemon shark. Best 90 dollars each the my husband and I ever spent.
