Favorite Excusion in St. Lucia

What is your favorite excursion in St. Lucia -- either ship excursion or on your own? Any information would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Linda - KidSandy was looking into the catamaran excursion on St. Lucia for us Summit Like It Hotters. I think the final answer was that it had to be booked through the cruise line. Do you snorkel? We have been to St. Lucia before and want to find a good snorkel spot instead of touring the island.

We hired a driver who took us all over the island. We visited the volcano and saw banana plantations and the Pitons. It was real enjoyeable and less expensive than the ship's excursions.

We took the Catamarran to Fond Doux Estate. Great excursion. Staff on the catamarran were informative, friendly and very proud of their island. There was plenty of sun and shade. Also had a short land tour to the volcano and a beautiful plantation. A very good lunch on the catamarran, a swim and a great views of the island. All and all a very good choice.

I would take the excursions that the ship offers. We were there a few years ago and it is a pretty scary place. I don't understand why ships even stop there. Every where you go you have to be extremely careful.

I beg to differ with frequenttraveler -- we were there in 2002 and we had a wonderful time and the island is gorgeous. We did not take an excursion off the ship but hired a taxi to take us everywhere we wanted to go. Everyone we met was polite and we never felt "scared" or threatened at all.

 

Everyone has a different experience, but we are going back to the Southern Caribbean on Summit next March because the cruise in 2002 was the BEST we have been on and that includes St. Lucia.

St. Lucia was one of our favorite islands. We went horseback riding with International Riding stables and had a great day.
