Toots Posted April 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2004 We're going on the Dream to the Baltic June 6. After reading about some of the Dream's transatlantic problems, would appreciate updates from current Dream cruisers.

Toots Posted April 9, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 9, 2004 We were on the Sky in the Caribbean in Dec. 2002 and the Spirit in Hawaii Oct. 2003. Where did you cruise on the Dream before?
Toots Posted April 9, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Cathy - Sorry, I just realized you've not been on the Dream yet either. Brain fade. I hope we hear from current Dream cruisers. I'll keep asking periodically so as to keep the thread current.
CeeGee Posted April 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Just got back from the transatlantic. There were some problems but overall we did have a great time. Severe weather and wind (16 foot swells where the norm for the first week or so) and engine problems caused a few changes in itinerary. Instead of Portugal, we hit Gilbraltar (An exchange that was well worth it... we LOVED Gilbraltar) and we completely missed Geona, Italy. The only other effects we noticed was slightly wilted flowers, running out of a few food items (what? no more Pistachio ice cream!!!!), and the repeat of a few shows. The ship did give everyone a $50 credit (max $100 per stateroom) to make up for the "inconvenience". Overall, it didn't interfere with our enjoyment at all, but I did hear many other passengers complaining quite loudly.
gdries Posted April 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2004 AHHH, so it was NOT the cruise from hell. Lets see if the positive input from someone who was there gets as much attention as those that leap to pounce on NCL, declare them insolvent and the rest. I think the future Dream cruisers who have been fretting about their cruise happening can take relief in knowing that the ship is not "hell" and the ship sails on. Camahr Posted April 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Jimbo23 If you sailed April of Last year, what was the weather like? I am looking at packing now, layering seems to be my best option. Being from Minnesota, changeable weather and layers is pretty much the norm here. Umbrella or rain coat? Did you use ship transfers London to Dover? Did you use the NCL Hotel package? How about suggestions for ship tours in St. Petersburg, we will probably do the other ports on our own. jimbo23 Posted April 13, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2004 We did the trip in late april last year and the weather is cool with some good days..The nights can be chilly and you need to take some layers jumpers light coats etc. we found it was better to take a backpack with an assortment of stuff in (light as possible) and this worked well . The night in Tivoli was excellent but very cold. Days we did not see much rain but the weather was about what you would expect for april / early may. If you e-mail me on jamesshannon@blueyonder.co.uk I will send you some notes from last year. have a good cruise Jim and Margaret Norwegian Dream April 2003 soon to be on board .Thats the life constellation

Shugette Posted April 14, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 14, 2004 We were on the transAtlantic cruise on the Dream. We had a wonderful time... CeeGee is totally correct...A little inconvenience missing a couple of ports we wanted to make, but Gibraltar was a truly added plus. The 10 days at sea were most relaxing---even though the swells were unreal at times.. 17+ for at least four days and nights. The crew was very nice, the food was good...did however miss a 24-hour snack place... just a little spoiled. There was 24-hr room service. The ship is nice. We had much more storage in our cabin (oceanview #6252) than we had on either the SKY or the DAWN in equivalent cabins. We had a Great time.. and would do it again---tomorrow, if possible. Enjoy your cruise
Rare Host CMLA Posted April 15, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 15, 2004 So glad to hear that the Dream wasn't a floating dump (I already knew that having sailed her 4 times before but others were questioning that). CeeGee and others...in my opinion, you didn't miss an awful lot in Genoa. When we docked there, it wasn't our favorite place. The dock was in a terrible location and none of the excursions looked that good to us. I would have loved to go to Gibralter. That sounds great! To those sailing on the Dream during her Baltic runs, you will have the trip of a lifetime. I did that cruise in 2001. For excursion information and all sorts of other bits of information, visit the Ports of Call board and look for Baltics. There are lots of cruisers over there either just back or about to go. I'd love to read a full review from any of you that just returned. And I'm sure future Dream cruisers would appreciate it. jayzee99 Posted April 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Just tried to book the Dream Transatlantic in September from Dover to Miami. My agent told me the NCL Dream blew an engine and they are not taking any more reservations for her. She said they are putting the Dream in Dry Dock. I don't know any more and can't find anything about this anywhere. Hope it's not that bad. Steve Z
