Nervous Cruiser 12 days to go!

I am soo nervous for my first cruise in 12 days! The ship is COMPLETELY FULL! There are only like 4 rooms left:eek: So I'm hoping that this cruise will still be fun and not be too packed. I've heard bad things about packed ships... I'm hoping this won't be the case:( We're sailing out on the Glory and going to Grand Caymans and Jamaica. My husband doesn't know we are going still! Crossing my fingers that the last few days will stay a surprise!!

Even if it doesn't turn out the best, I am SUPER excited to go to Jamaica and to get away with DH.

Wow, a surprise!! That's awesome!!

As for full ships, I've been on 4 cruises, all spring break, all full, and I am not a party animal... Never had a problem. It wasn't so crowded that you didn't have fun. Weren't a bunch of drunk people either, all my cruises were great! Going on one in 25 days, this will be my first non spring break cruise... I'm hoping it's AS fun.

So when do you plan on springing the surprise???? No need to be nervous.. they all fill up.. :) You should have a blast!

Actually he thinks we are gong to Universal (he doesn't know Florida AT ALL) and so we are staying overnight after our flight and then a friend is driving us to the cruise ship. From the hotel to the port, he will be blindfolded and have ear phones on (he thinks the hotel that we are going to at Universal is the big surprise :roll eyes:) haha. So we will pull up, take off the blindfold and VOILA.. SURPRISE! Anyways, thats the plan. He knows I am surprising him, he thinks the hotel is the biggest surprise. But boy does he have a surprise in store! :D

OMG I am so exited for you! I absolutely love to do this kind of stuff for my family. When my kids were smaller I did something similar. I even packed their clothes for them. They knew we were going somewhere but they had no idea where until we got to the port.

I hope the surprise lasts-keep us posted!

I don't know if you have had time but this is a great thread to read for some "cruising tips they don't tell you".

I started it on page 162 because the original thread started 7 years ago and some things have changed :)

The most important thing to remember on your first cruise is to relax. Amazing how many people sweat the small stuff and miss out on all the fun.

Have a great time!

Even if it's full, you won't notice. Biggest crowd will be at Muster drill, and they separate the crowd by deck/cabin number to different areas. Lido deck can also be crowded at Embarkation, when everyone grabs something to eat before cabins are opened.

Once sailing starts, you'll very rarely even see the same people around the ship more than a few times, unless you share the same interests (casino, trivia).

Just relax & have fun! and Don't forget the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake!:D;)

They all run pretty full, but less so this time of year. Kids are back in school so every cabin may be sold, but some that hold 3 or 4 people may not be full.

There are only a few times you will feel the crowds but you can work around most of them. The biggest jam up is probably the lunch buffet if you get on the ship before 1:30 because the rooms won't be available yet and everyone will want to start enjoying the cruise food.

Don't hurry to the muster station for the lifeboat drill. The first ones there stand against the wall and wait for everyone else to get there and get lined up in front of them. The last ones there get nearest to the cool breeze coming over the rail and can actually see the people running the drill. Don't take too long because that keeps everyone waiting. You can pretty well judge the flow of traffic on the stairs.

The worse place you will notice is the shopping area during sales on sea days. It gets a little shoulder to shoulder at the choke points. Go up or down a deck to get around the crowds.

Lines form at the main dining rooms just before dinner. Don't stand in line, show up about 10 minutes late the first day (when it takes more time for everyone looking for their table the first time) and about 5 minutes late the rest of the cruise. That is not late enough to throw off the severs schedules (I've asked them to make sure) but late enough not to wait too long in line.

We take the same approach on port days. Unless we have a tour scheduled that we have a set time for, we'll wait for the lines to clear to get off the ship. We always get in line to return at least 30 minutes before the scheduled return times, especially on ports with tenders, to make sure we don't get left behind. Sometimes a lot of people line up at the last minute. The ship won't leave while people are lined up to get on but I don't want the stress.

Arrive early for the major shows to get the best seats. You can usually still get seats right up to show time but people get their really early for the choice selection. They usually have a bingo game or something similar just before the show. That gets people in and gives them something to do while waiting.

Walk the decks at night. There are all kinds of quite little spots where you can enjoy quiet time together looking at the sea. When you've had enough of that dive back into the numerous party's going on inside.

Take advantage of the shore talks and the shopping talks. They both give a lot of details about what is available in port and it's better to hear it then and get a chance to do something you didn't know about than hear about it at dinner after that port.

On embarkation day don't get caught up in the hustle to get off. We usually catch a nice relaxed breakfast in the dining room then get our bags from the cabin and camp out at a table outside on the aft of the Lido deck. Wait for your number to be called and unless you have an early flight just relax and enjoy the time you have.

Chill out. We have all been new once so you are not alone. :)

What a neat surprise. You must come back and let us know how it went.

Enjoy this time and know it will all flow when you board.

Don't forget. We want to hear what happens.

Make sure you take his picture when you take the blindfold off. That picture will be priceless!!!

Yep got his passport. He thinks it will make things speedier at the airport. That was the reason I gave him for getting one. We plan on cruising a lot (hopefully) so he thought it was a good time to get it. He is sort of playing dumb a lot, not asking ANY questions and taking my word on everything. He really wants this to be a surprise. hahah. Little does he know it will be the surprise of his life!! :D
