nelderwoman Posted October 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2011 Hi Barbados is the last stop on our P&O cruise. We are swimming with the turtles in the morning and just wanted to wander around the town in the afternoon. I am shocked as most of the reviews are not great. Can you tell me how far is the town from the pier? would we need a taxi? What is the shopping like in the town? Any info gratefully received Many thanks:) __________________

Taxis are plentiful outside the terminal if you prefer. Yes there are shops however suprisingly they are not really directed to the tourist trade. We found it very loud and busy and in the heat it was too much for us and we scurried back to the ship(bar....).
wales4ever Posted October 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2011 You can buy cheapish clothes, such as hawaiian shirts as souveniers etc. Ok to walk round. There is also a nice marina, where you can sit and have a drink and a bite to eat. We saw a turtle swimming there in february.
u2cruiser Posted October 22, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2011 The walk from the port is the nicest part, down a nice avenue, with some bars (shacks really) along the way. Bridgetown itself is ok but the least charming of the island's towns in our opinion. Not sure if that is because it is more modern and prosperous than the other towns? There are some nice colonial buildings and a market area. The shops are a little non descript really; there is a Woolworths ;) It was unbelievably hot last November and we were melting; glad to get back to the ship. capasamari Posted October 22, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2011 There are quite a lot of souvenir and clothing shops and stalls in the terminal building. Depends what you are looking for. Carol x
C at Sea Posted October 23, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2011 If you just want shops - the terminal building has quite a few and would be your best bet - then back to the ship for a long drink by the pool!
