QUSTION RE: EMAIL ADDRESS ISSUED BY NCL...

Just received my cruise tickets and was issued a personal email address by NCL for the cruise. Also mention that family members can email a message to me. How and where can these messages by retreived? Is there a fee? I will be sailing on the Dream next week and hope to stay in contact with my family by email.

Yes, I received my docs and noticed that I too have been given an email address. I was curious as to why this was needed, as I already have a couple of email addresses I can use.

I too was confused when I saw my Doc's with an email address. This is how it works. When you sign onto the computer you use your first initial and last name and room # and then your birthday is your password. After you put in this information another board comes up with the word "Guest" you then sign online with your own screen name and password.....Hope this helps.

There is a fee for this service. I forget exactly how much, but you are better off to use your own email address. The problem is that there is a fee everytime you use your "cruisemail" address, in addition to the internet usage fees.

It was a flat fee of 55.00 for 100 minutes or 100.00 for 250 minutes. There is an instruction card on each table and it is very simple to operate.
The only time there was an extra charge was for emails you sent if you didn't use your own screen name. But as I recall everyone had to "start" the machine with the screen name they provided you with.

To the OP...I'd suggest never using the e mail address the ship gives you. Tt costs you $3.95 to send each e mail. When you go to the Internet cafe on the ship, sign in using the instructions you're given and then when prompted on the screen, choose to use your own e mail address. That way you'll only pay the minute rate and not an additional $3.95 per e mail. Also know that you'll have to pay $3.95 just to establish the account.

You haveto pay the per minute fee + 3.95 initial sign on + 3.95 for each eamil sent?

From someone else I was given the impression that you only pay to "send email" when using the NCL email, and not a per minute fee to read emails from your NCL account.

You don't have to pay the $3.95 fee to read your email, but it does cost you minutes since you're connected to the internet. As stated above, you can buy 100 minutes for $55 (and yes, we did use all of our in a week and had to buy more), or pay $.75 per minute if you don't want to prepay.

Just use your web based mail. Even if you have a mail and calendar program setup such as "outlook express", there should still be a url to go and view and send email online from that very same account.

From Cecelia's comments, it appears the internet cafe may have those desktops locked down to very limited functionality so they can push their own propriety email on you.

That is exactly what we did. I already had a Yahoo ID set-up, so we just used it for our email communications while on board.

Can I access my Hotmail email address easily. Sorry I am still somewhat confused...novice at this.

Assuming that you access hotmail through the internet you should be fine. I used my Yahoo account, my sister used her AOL account, and my other sister used her Juno account. We were all able to access them without much difficulty, even the ones who aren't heavy computer users. [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

I ahve a strong suspicion that most people use the internet to access thier hotmail account. Unless of course you have an internet-ready mobile phone or automatic text-send features.

I cant get to it here at work (proxy rules) but I believe the correct URL is-

Look for two fields with a username and password, OR look for a link to "login" to your hotmail account.
