Gotta Love Cruisin ! Posted April 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2005 Hi Everyone ! I`m new to this and have learned so much from this board. We will be coming to Nassau on April 19th with RCL. We are looking for a great beach to just relax on since we are there until midnight at this port. I am leaning toward BCH or Wyndham resort for the day.I have emailed BCH to confirm the $15 a day pass and they have confirmed this. I also am awaiting an email from Wyndham to confirm that they welcome cruisers(Figured I could gamble a bit and get a bite to eat there as well) at no charge for beach and pool access. My question is this.... I have 4 in our party ( My wife and 2 teenage girls ages 16 & 18) Which would you go to if you had a choice? I wouldn`t mind saving $60 and going to Wyndham if it turns out being free. The jitney is $1 a person to get there so that is no big deal Thanks for any help you can give me ! debbie9703 Posted April 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2005 We were trying to decide the exact same thing. We are going to be there in July and will have a 16 yr old and and two 20 yr olds. I was worried that we would not be able to stay on the beach at the Wyndham since we will not be guests. WE finally have decided to go to BCH since we only have till 2 and also want to go to Senor Frogs before heading back to the ship. I am interested to know what you find out about being allowed on the Wyndham beach. There are several threads about all the beaches. The BCH does sound nice so I think we will enjoy it and not having to rush back to the ship be be nice.
MnFrozen2 Posted April 5, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2005 Warning, but this post may be negative! I too spent time on this board researching what to do while in the Bahamas during my HAL/Zuiderdam cruise 3/19-3/26. This was my first visit to the Bahamas so I took the advice of the posters on this board and decided to go to the BCH. I wanted something close and convenient to the ships, and also private and away from the "spring-breaker" crowd. My advice, go somewhere else! I'm not blaming anyone. It ultimately was my choice. But if I had known that the beach was in this same (enclosed) harbor where the cruise ships, cargo ships, ferry and sea planes use and dock at, I would have gone somewhere else like Paradise Island. I should have put two and two together before I actually saw it. Anything within a short walking distance to a docked ship has to be in the same harbor. My bad! I did take another couple along with us and they left after being there only 2 hours. Here is a short list of my reasons. - The water is not very clean. Saw garbage (in a few spots) on the bottom. - Little kids kept finding broken glass in the water - Could not find an available chair poolside. Looks like the regular guests got them earlier then the cruise ships arrive. - Premium chairs on the beach were gone (same as above). - Drinks where more expensive than on board the ship. There were two good things. - The calypso band that played until 3:00 p.m. was good!!! - It was private. That seemed to keep the riff-raff out. I could add more, but is late and I'm going to bed. I'll watch this thread. Let me know if you have specific questions.
two cruisers 723 Posted April 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2005 I don't understand why some people seem to have a problem with the fact that you can see the cruise ships from this beach. I can understand if you're looking for a view of only the horizon. And I know that can be beautiful. But if you look to the right, you'll see the ships on this beach. And if you look to the left, you'll see the horizon. If you don't care about that (and we didn't), it's a gorgeous beach. The sand is soft. The water is cool. The beach is clean. And I didn't notice any oil or trash in the water. I'm sure that with any beach, something can float in the water and end up there. We were at the BCH on 3/25/05 around the same time as the earlier poster. We had no problem getting chairs on the beach that day and there were plenty of open chairs not in use. The beach wasn't crowded at all. The pool was a little more crowded. But we were able to find lounge chairs available there. The property itself was also very pretty and nicely landscaped. You should see the huge Palm Trees that are all around the pool area. I have some great pictures that I can email to anyone who would like to see what I mean. I can't speak to the cost of drinks because it was Good Friday and they weren't serving alcohol until after 6 PM. But the food wasn't bad at all. For $9.95, we got an appetizer sampler platter that included 3 Conch Fritters, 4 Grouper Fingers, 4 (decent sized) Jerk Chicken Wings and veggies with dip. This is no more than you'd spend at home. And it was the local fare from another country and very tasty. Plus, they served us right on the beach. And we each had our own table next to our lounge chair to eat on. It was great. From what I've read and heard, there aren't really any secluded beaches in Nassau unless you go on a tour to an island beach. And even those don't get rave reviews and are often considered small and commercial for what is billed as a secluded beach. They don't seem to have full service bars (maybe rum punch, beer & soda only) or any really good food (burgers and chicken). And you've given up an hour and a half of your day (plus the time it took to get your tour organized) to go to a small, secluded beach. Whatever you decide, you're on a beach in the Bahamas. Enjoy it! I would highly recommend the British Colonial Hilton. Post your email address if anyone would like to see some good pics of the beach, pool and hotel. DeRon Posted April 24, 2005 #18 Share Posted April 24, 2005 We just got back from the Colonial (while on our Millennium cruise). It is nice if you are just looking for a pool to relax by. I would not go here if you are looking for a good beach. I believe the Wyndam is a much better choice on Cable Beach. We had wished we would have gone to Cable Beach. knarf Posted May 9, 2005 #22 Share Posted May 9, 2005 Hi wendya2J, I see that you didn't get an answer to your question as to how to get to the Wyndham. Here's what we did in January 2005. We got off the Costa Mediterrean turned right on the main street, went down a couple of blocks to the Straw Market ( tons of of crafts and "things" for sale many many many vendors) I thought it was a pretty neat place. Then we walked "up" a block and got on the bus that takes to to Cable Beach and told the driver we wanted off at the Wyndham. He let us off right at the door !! The bus ride was a $1.00 per person. Nice ride along the water and was able to see the sights along the way. This is not a taxi but is the local bus that the people ride. Just ask anyone where you can catch the bus to Cable Beach and they will help you. No problem at all. After laying on the beach for a while we went into the casino to "donate" our money to the slot machines!!! We then went right outside the hotel and caught the bus back to town where we had gotten on. We enjoyed ourselves and had no problems at all. We are going to do the same thing 7/9/05 while on the Zuiderdam. Hope this gives you the info you were looking for. Take care, Knarf (Frank backwards)

Bonnie Voyager Posted June 5, 2005 #24 Share Posted June 5, 2005 http://community.webshots.com/album/135434556WUYATq/0 The photos from BCH are at the bottom of page one and top of page two. We had a wonderful experience at the BCH! The water was clean, the beach was beautiful with the view of the ships in the background! The pool was nearly empty the day we were there (which was Easter Sunday). We had no complaints at all. It was nearly perfect! I say nearly perfect because we were supposed to have been at Labadee (RCCL's private island) that day but were redirected to Nassau due to Civil Unrest on the island of Haiti (where Labadee is located). We had been to Nassau many times and weren't too excited about returning. Our day at BCH changed that though! It was a lovely way to spend a relaxing day with very little effort on our part! (Close to the ship! Easy walk!)
