British Colonial or Wyndham Resort

Gotta Love Cruisin !

Recommended Posts

Then we walked "up" a block and got on the bus that takes to to Cable Beach and told the driver we wanted off at the Wyndham. He let us off right at the door !! . . . . We then went right outside the hotel and caught the bus back to town where we had gotten on. We enjoyed ourselves and had no problems at all.

I read somewhere that Bay Street (the route to Cable Beach) is one way? The bus you took from the hotel back to the dock -- was it at the same stop where you got off originally? I'm a bit confused.

Bay Street in Nassau proper is one way, but if you catch the jitney at the McDonalds across the street from the British Colonial Hilton, you will have no trouble getting back to the same location. At that point, Bay Street is a two way street ... all the way to Cable Beach.

We were just at BCH last week. I hadn't read anything about it, just stumbled onto it. The $15 only included use of the beach, pool, and a towel, but I thought it was worth it. It was a short port day for us, so we didn't want to traipse all over the place. The beach was clean; other people there were snorkeling (if you could call it that) a little, there were plenty of chairs both on the beach and by the pool. I was happy it was near the ship; we just went back there for lunch (although there was plenty of food nearby.) To me, the proximity to the free ship lunch justified the $30 we spent at BCH. We loved it.

We docked in Nassau in April '05 and we first visited the Straw Market, infront of the Market, you will see where all the #10 jitney buses are parked. For $1 each we hopped on and told the driver to let us off at the Wyndham. It was about a 15 minute ride, as the bus makes some stops along the way.

Once at the Wyndham, we walked right through the front doors, towards the back of the hotel, where you will see the pool. We went out towards the pool and walked along the sidewalk to the right side of the hotel. There you will see a long strip of Cable Beach with all the hotels along it. We just plopped down on the beach on our towels and hung out there for a couple hours. The Wyndham has shops, a snack bar, casino, buffet ($$$$), liquor store. We didn't use their pool cuz we didn't want to get asked for ID, but we had no problem walking through the hotel, shops, grounds or the beach. I believe the beaches are all public anyway.

To go back to the Straw Market (to get back to the ship), just wait in front of the Wyndham for a #10 jitney and take it back. I think the jitney busses stop at 6 pm. There is a great restaurant next door to the Wyndham called Johnny Canoes. It is a very tropical atmosphere and food is pretty good. Across the street from the Wyndham is another smaller Straw Market and a tropical drink stand. Very good tropical drinks. You get your money's worth! Basically, it cost us $1 each way for the ride! :p

To Bonnie Voyager...really enjoyed your pictures. Do you think the BCH is too stuffy for little kids, mainly the pool area? We're traveling with a 20 month old, a 6 and 9 yr old who love to splash etc. Appreciate anything you could share.

Also, was born and raised in Stanton. Now living in Ky, but we go home frequently....when Uncle Sam says it's ok!!! Thanks
