jaspertl Posted April 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2005 Our first cruise and I was wondering how much freedom they give you on the ship to walk around on your own? Can you go to the kitchen for example and watch them prepare the meals, or walk in the engine room or check out where the captain and crew steer the ship etc. Thanks! Texasbob Posted April 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2005 we found you! U.S. govt., please send that $40M to the ship in question. It should cover the bar tab for at least 3 days.
catmand Posted April 5, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2005 No.all the places you mentioned are off limits unless with a group tour thru area. They do a quickie thru the galley after the cooking demo. Some people say they have written letters to the ship in advance of their cruise asking for a tour of the bridge. I always tell people if they want to see the bridge just tell the Captain you are a dentist. As far as crew areas, also off limits. You will see signs letting you know where NOT to go. There are plenty of places to go, don't worry you will not feel claustraphobic (sp?).
wolfie11 Posted April 5, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2005 Bridge tours are becoming less frequent post 9/11. There are new homeland security regulations about keeping the bridge doors locked at all times and who can be admitted. A lot depends on the captain as to whether there will be bridge tours, but as a general rule, unless you have some pull with the cruise ship line, you won't get to see the bridge. jaspertl Posted April 7, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted April 7, 2005 if there was any possiblity of seeing the bridge, who would we speak to when we board ship??
wolfie11 Posted April 7, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2005 I think it depends somewhat on the ship, but I would start with the cruise director.

mii Posted April 8, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2005 if there was any possiblity of seeing the bridge, who would we speak to when we board ship?? We were on the Coral Princess last year and we typed a letter addressed to the Captain to see if we could tour the bridge. We left the letter at the purser's desk the day we boarded. About 2 or 3 days later we received an invitation to tour the bridge along with people who were celebrting anniversaries etc. We did not know the captain's name so just addressed the envleope "The Captain".
