basildon bigtone Posted November 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2011 For reasons best known to us we are making our own way on BA to Barbados to join Azura A205 on 3rd March. Just wondering if anyone else is doing/has done this and their experiences of it.
cruiseluvva Posted November 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2011 We always book our own flights - with VA rather than BA - and stay a few nights in Barbados first. It's much more relxing we feel and allows us to wind down before the cruise - plus we are able to upgrade the flights which means we travel in more comfort. This year we used miles to go, so it cost us nothing more than the tax, which was great. We would not fly out on the same day for fear of a delay and the ship sailing without us. On embarkation day, we get a cab to the pier to arrive about 11am and are able to board straight away. By this time our cabin is sufficently ready for us to leave all our hand luggage and go off for a swim and then some lunch. If there's anything I can answer, please ask. basildon bigtone Posted November 9, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Thanks for the info Gill. Like you, we are using our BA miles this time and travelling Club World which, as you say, gives you a bit of comfort and,of course, we are not limited to 23 kg luggage allowance! Also, as you suggest, we are going down the daybefore embarkation so as to avoid any possible problems.

Whilst an extreme weather related delay is unlikely in March, last December on the Oceana Panama canal transit our charter flight from Acapulco was delayed until the next day because of bad UK weather. P&O accepted responsibilty for us and accomodated us overnight in the Crowne Plaza hotel, bussing us to the airport from there. Anyone making private flight arrangements woould have been left to their own devises.
terrierjohn Posted November 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Do P&O offer a reduced, cruise only, fare if you do this?
cruiseluvva Posted November 10, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2011 No they don't, but as the flight componant is only a small part of the fare, I don't think the saving would be that much anyway. We need to travel Business so my husband can lie down, so we just factor in any flight cost, if we don't have enough miles to use. The upside is we get a few days in Barbados and can take 96kgs of baggage each :D
