Celebrities on a Cruise Ship

Just out of curiosity, Have you or anybody that you know every met anybody that is famous on a cruise before? I really don't expect for that to happen but I just thought that it would be interesting to hear is somebody has.

lynyrd:)

Wow, so many real encounters!

The best I can do was that we heard that Rosie O'Donnell was on the sailing before us once on the Victory and that one of the Back Street Boys was on a "recent" cruise when on the Legend.

...but then we could have gone on the "Icons of Rock" cruise last summer. I thought about it but thought it would be depressing to see the idols of my youth older than me now and demoted to playing a cruise ship rather than wowing the crowd at Summer Jam '72 in front of millions ( or so it seemed )

Did not run into any celebs on a cruise but did share an elevator with Barry Corbin(Northern Exposure) after a concert or show in downtown Fort Worth several years ago. We exchanged pleasantries and went our way. Since he had grown a beard and was wearing a western hat I felt he was seeking anomnimity. DW has meet several past tv and movie stars while she worked in the theatre. DD does know FastBall. They have been friends with them since they started playing the clubs in Austin several years ago.

Back in 94 my wife and I were on Royal Carribean cruise.Captain and Tenille were to perform.I was taking a nap and my wife wife was walking around the ship checking it out.She got into an elevator and they both got on.It was just the 3 of them. She said they were really nice people.By the way, their show was awesome! I didn't want to go,I wasn't up for "Muscrat Love"!....LOL But they were really good. They got off in San Juan after the show.

I was on the NCL Dawn a couple of year's ago out of NYC and Richard Hatch (Survivor's first winner) was on the cruise. He was very gracious and willing to take photos with pax. There were so many people that wanted to ask questions about his Survivor experience and the aftermath that he agreed to host a 1 hour Q & A session that actually lasted nearly an hour and a half.

I dont think of her as a celebrity, even if she thinks she is, but when we were on a Carnival cruise (8-9 years ago and I don't remember which one it was) KathyLee Gifford was on it filming a commercial, of course, for Carnival. It was horrible.....

In the casino at night, they cleared out the entire crap table (in the middle of a roll) and surrounding tables/machines just so she and the other actors could tape. At the pool, smack in the middle of a sunny day at sea, they made a couple hundred of the passengers get up and leave their lounge chairs (including my then 8 months pregnant sister). On the lido deck, at lunchtime, in the buffet, they roped off an entire area, this time not so much for filming but so that the crew and actors could eat alone... Imagine the passengers walking around holding trays looking for tables only to have an entire area roped off. On this particular day, one of the passengers put his foot down, opened his mouth, and climbed right on over the rope and then the rest of the passengers followed him!!!

So, depending on who it is, and why they are there, sometimes seeing someone famous is not always a blessing...

I would have been livid! That should have been told to passengers when they booked....what a pain!

Besides the inconvience KLG is so bloody sweet just being in the same room could put one into a diabetic coma!

I have been on 15 cruises leaving from many different ports and I have never seen anyone famous, atleast none that I know of. Maybe we need to keep our eyes more open. I am on board for me and to have a good time and relax not to see anyone so maybe thats why I haven't? Too worried about me having a good time!~

We were livid...trust me. To complete the story, when we got home I called Customer Service (now mind you I have never called them prior to this or since) and the representative that I got told me that she had many complaints over this. So, instead of the normal 10% off your next cruise discount, they gave us 25%..... we always have a good time no matter so took this and upgraded the following year to a balcony!!!

Yes, KathyLee and the film crew were annoying, disruptive, rude etc etc etc...and YES, I did tell Csr Svc that they should have informed us prior to cruising (not that it would have made a difference at that time) but we always try to have a good time and ignore the bad....

P.S. I, too, wouldn't recognize someone famous unless they smacked me in the face....

Lets see. All three cruises I've experienced had celebrity entertainment.

D.L. Hughley

Stephanie Mills

Anita Baker

Johnny Gill

The Whispers

The Isley Brothers

Howard Hewett

The O'Jays

Other people I recognized were...

Tracy McGrady, Cris Rock, Allen Iverson, Charles Woodson, and Stacy Augmon, Johnny Chochran, and Michael Clarke Duncan.

.... and in July, we'll be cruising with Boys2Men, the Gap Band, and two to three more artists.

We were on the Elation last June with a "country" singer named Steve Holy. He is best known for his song"Good Morning Beautiful" and "Put Your Best Dress On" which he filmed the video for right before our cruise. The funny thing was, he was on the cruise with a group from a building company which is headquartered here in Dallas and his longtime girlfriend. The very week we got off the ship he was in People magazine paired up with Estella from the Bachelor (the one Bob dumped) and it said they had an ongoing romance..Well... not so true since he was on the cruise with his girlfriend and they were all over each other. I guess it was just a publicity stunt since Estella was featured in his video which was filmed the week before. It was very cool that every night he would sing some of the songs off his album in the Kareoke Bar. Several people knew who he was or knew his music.

This is the first time that I've read through this thread. My dad and step-mom were on your cruise. At the time she worked for that homebuilder. I have pics my dad sent me of Steve Holy from that trip.:)

We had a great time wathcing him each night and luckily we knew who he was as he is somewhat of a local celebrity and VERY cute! We have pictures of him also, however they aren't very flattering of him because he was wasted!! Do you know if his girlfriend works for that builder also? We were just curious what his ties were to that group.. He hung with the "big wig" alot in the casino, throwing down lots of cash..gave a waitress a 200.00 tip to get him some cigarettes. It was very interesting!
