nicknack Posted November 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2011 Anyone know why Godfrey refuses to take people to Sapphire for the beach part of the tour? For either Sunny Liston or Air Force 1 (Papa Bear), will you be taken to Sapphire if that is your choice, or are you stuck with "majority rules"? blue_water Posted November 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2011 We have not taken these tours because we normally drive. But there were posts stating Godfrey refused to go to Sapphire because the restaurant that was once open there closed and therefore the restroom facilities are lacking. This is a bit of an exaggeration, the restrooms are fine. They can become "well-used" after a long day of cruisers when there are 20,000 cruisers on the island but that's the case everywhere. Sapphire is a great spot to spend your beach time, we spent a week there and loved it. The facilities are adequate, there is a full service dive center and a small Banana Cabana serving burgers, mahi mahi sandwiches and beer and the view of St John and Tortola is amazing and the snorkeling is good! And as a bonus, Sapphire doesn't get the crowds that Coki and Magens do. Just taxi to Sapphire, then taxi to Paradise Point for a great ending to your day - can't beat it! ;)
GLCAS Posted November 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Blue water, That is exactly what we are thinking of doing. Do you know how much the taxi would be for this? And also do you know if Princess docks in Havensight?
Ms411 Posted November 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Princess docks at Crown Bay which is closer to Emerald Beach than Sapphire, and Emerald Beach does not have the good snorkeling like Sapphire, because there's no coral reef. The water tends to be calmer, though. The taxi fare from Havensight to Sapphire is $10 pp each way, so it may be $12 pp each way from Crown Bay. There's a restaurant a bit up the hill from the beach, Sapphire Grill, and they have good food and decent bathrooms, though they're not directly on the beach. Nik Posted November 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2011 We were at Sapphire Beach a year ago and swore we wouldn't go back. We aren't fussy people, but the beach was in bad condition..lots of garbage around, washrooms were really bad..no one to attend to them at all and it looked like they hadn't been looked after for a week. We have been going to this beach for a number of years, and the last visit was the last straw. I suppose Godfrey had way too many complaints about this stop. We have used Godfrey's tours for many years and never had any problems or complaints about his tour. We will be using his services again in January and going to Megan's Bay this time. blue_water Posted November 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2011 We spent a week there over Easter and the beach and grounds were immaculate and the public restrooms were fine. It's so nice there that we're considering buying there
