big_duck Posted November 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Can I use my cell phone when docked in St. Thomas and San Juan? Most likely yes, but you really should check the T&Cs of your service provider.
sharonh1885 Posted November 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I have Verizon and did use it in both ports without additional fees a few years ago.
nanuak Posted November 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I have AT&T and it worked in the USVI with no extra charge.
Rare Timmys_mom Posted November 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I have T-Mobile and those are the only two ports that I get service included. But do as Duck says and check your contract.
Joy2Day Posted November 18, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Sprint service -- and no extra fees for either place on multiple visits.
rjschaack16 Posted November 18, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 18, 2011 We have T-Mobile and in both ports no charges. Look at your service providers coverage map online and it will tell you if you can use it for no extra charge or call them.
geezersgirl Posted November 18, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I also have Verizon and used mine in both San Juan and St Thomas with no extra fees. I did call ahead of time and make sure my international calling was active. That is when they told me that both of those ports are considered the same as if I was in the continental US. lifeisgoodPat Posted November 18, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I did check and ATT said no problem. St. Thomas is fine……No charge
JenniLynn Posted November 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Shhhh.. don't tell my hubby this! The best part of cruising for me is the NO PHONE part! If he knew that there was no additional fee he would be on the phone 1/2 the day in St. Thomas in December and in San Juan when we sail this summer! So let's just keep this our little secret... OK? BenjiRodney Posted November 19, 2011 #12 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Sprint as well and no extra charges, left phone off in all other ports just to be safe. It was nice to be phone free for 6 days.
sarge98 Posted November 19, 2011 #13 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Can I use my cell phone when docked in St. Thomas and San Juan? My little Tracfone works from both places, same as in Continental USA.
Jenna1983 Posted November 19, 2011 #14 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Verizon is basically the same as if you were in the continental US for San Juan (text, call, data). St. Thomas is $1.99 per minute to talk and text is like domestic at home.
seacat66 Posted November 20, 2011 #15 Share Posted November 20, 2011 My little Tracfone works from both places, same as in Continental USA. i have tracfone also, prepaid. they use at&t and verizon towers. last week i had no problem using it in st. thomas. no extra minutes used or any charges. but i would check this out if you get usage charges billed. blue_water Posted November 20, 2011 #16 Share Posted November 20, 2011 Can I use my cell phone when docked in St. Thomas and San Juan? AT&T has normal service in both locations (no extra fees), Verizon did not but that may have since changed.
