White Water Rafting

Hi, We are thinking about doing white water rafting in Rotroua:eek:

 

Has anybody done this? If so which company would be best to go with.

Hope the following helps: The Kaituna (grade 5), Rangitaiki (grade 2/3/4) & Wairoa (grade 5) rivers in the Rotorua region are the white water rafting spots. Some web sites are: Kaitiaki adventures rafting/sledging www.raft-it.co.nz, Kaituna cascades raft & kayak www.kaitunacascades.co.nz, River rats raft & kayak www.riverrats.co.nz, Wet n wild rafting www.wetnwildrafting.co.nz, and for jet boating including geothermal, nature & hot springs NZ riverjet www.riverjet.co.nz, or jet-boating & hot pools/para-sailing www.kjetrotorua.co.nz.

The White Water rafting is some distance like 1 1/2 hour drive from the ship at Tauranga . We went and it was fabulous included return transfers, all gear and inclusive lunch at a riverside restaurant . You book it as a Shore excursion with your cruise line.

For some of those I listed it would be more like a total of 1.5 hours for the return journey. Which river is the ship excursion on?

Thanks for the great info. So far we like the Grade 3/4 which is with river rats. ( Kaituna river) The only problem is that we are already booked to do zorbing, but I dont think that takes too long. I know the zorbing site is about a ten minute bus ride fronm Rotorua so after that we were hoping for a half day rafting adventure.

 

We also looked at the white river rafting in Wellington, but could only find one that does grade 2 rafting. We wanted a bit more adventure than that.:cool:

I did the rafting many year's ago and they let more water down that day

than they should have mmm can't remember what grade we set out on:eek:

anyway after going over the small waterfall we lost two overboard, but hey don't panick they managed to haul them back aboard and we then had to paddle to the side of the river and all have a laugh while we bailed the excess water from the raft. Fantastic experience

Should be on everyone's bucket list..lol

Hi Deb,

It looks like we will be doing the grade 5:eek:

 

It's closer and will give us time to do the zorbing.

 

Dicky is a bit worried about his back, but Fiona told him to eat a bucket of cement....lol;) She said that if his back is sore the zorbing will fix it right up...:D

 

Joe says Dicky can save him if he falls out....lol
