Port Canaveral vs Miami

Can anyone who has cruised out of both Port Canaveral and Miami compare them for me?

Specifically, DD has a mobility impairment. We have typically cruised out of Miami and generally wait for a wheelchair so she doesn't have to stand and wait in lines. We get brought up in the elevator to the VIP area and board from there. Once we get to the gangway they take back the wheelchair and we walk her on.

How does Canaveral compare to Miami? I have heard its very organized and generally a quick check in, but I am not sure if we would still be in long lines that she would have to stand and walk through... should we still go the wheelchair route in Canaveral? We are anticipating being there at 10:30am...

Thanks.

we have our own whelchair and I tend to push ahead and not wait around for help. Can't remember too much difference on the actual checkin, we got prioritized as usual and skipped the 'normal' queues.

However, on entering the ship at canaveral (Freedom of the sea) I remember that I thought what a stupid place to have the seapass picture station, the slightest queue would mean we had to stop in a "steep" slope. And no easy way to stand at the bottom of the slope to wait it to be cleared. It was too wide, so people was just passing us. After a while I just passed everyone shouting make way all the way up to flat ground.

The only one muttering about queue jumping was a couple that passed us while we were waiting for the slope to clear :-)

Next time we go from there, we will get an official to follow us (I still prefer to push the wheelchair. I have much more experience doing it than anybody else)

Cheers, Erex

Have not cruised out of Miami yet, but Canavaral was very easy for us. Our group of 10 included a manual w/c and a scooter. We were escorted from the moment we arrived at the drop area. quick semi-private check in, I think it was the priority passenger area, and right onto the ship. I agree with the akward ramp issues posted above, but we skiped the photo op and were lucky there was no line.

Canaveral is much easier than Miami, Canaveral has an elevator and if you use Special Needs at Sea like I always do they personally with EVERY Canaveral based line escort you on board. I even know of a shuttle company that shuttles you to the cruise, drops you at the first door and brings your scooter along too. Hummmmm.....
