Alaskan nasties ?

Like the legends about the Alaska Highway, stories about Alaska Mosquitoes are told for effect rather than fact. Few areas have real problems - wet areas in the interior in July being the general problem area/time. Bring some repellent (stuff with substantial DEET is the only thing that actually works) just in case (Nature being rather unpredictable), but don't worry about it.

Now Now Murray 'fess up. We all know that the Mosquito is the State Bird of Alaska.

BTW-Washington State Legislature passed a bill to make the Orca the State Marine Mammal yesterday.

Us Ontario folks can wrestle them to the ground. The current title holder can do it in 74 sec. without life threatening injuries.... We did adapt a few tricks from the Alaskan folks..... we no longer use DEET, we just roll in bear scent. It helps stun the mosquito, so we can get a Roman Grecko hold started:D

If it gets warm I wouldn't bet on any time being safe. I was out for dog training Tuesday night here in Michigan, where the temperature reached an unlikely 67 degrees, and the bloodsuckers were out. Nobody had thought to bring bug spray due to the fact it was only April 5.

I intend to visit Alaska in May armed with some spray. Just like layers of clothing, raingear, etc., one must be prepared!

We're cruising to Alaska on Infinity 28th May, our furthest North being Ict Straight Point. Are there likely to be any problems with mosquitos?

Hi Murmurings: We are also sailing on May 28th on the Infinity. Come join us on our roll call board. You may have to go back a few pages to find us. Also when you come on also join the Celebrity party. You will find that info on the Celebrity message board. on the upper right hand corner.
