i am bill Posted April 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2004 I'm on the Aug 28 SEA and was wondering which we would be the better destination to go snorkeling. Any Advice?

Stevie17 Posted April 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2004 This is a tough question to answer, because both locations are world-renowned diving/snorkeling locations! I've done both, but if I had to pick, I'd say Roatan simply because of the uniqueness of the location. However, both are unbelievable places to snorkel, so feel comfortable choosing either. travelhound Posted April 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2004 As a previous poster mentioned, you cannot go wrong with either location. However, I've been diving and snorkeling all over the world and I think the snorkeling off of Tabayana Beach in Roatan is one of the best sites I've ever experienced. You can walk in off the beach and swim for hours and not see the same things twice. There is also a wide variety of coral and fish to view. It was simply spectacular. In addition, there are not alot of other things to do in Roatan and there are plenty of other fun activities in Cozumel. Either way, have a great time. tiggrrr Posted April 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2004 I agree - Tabyana Beach, Roatan!!
OCruisers Posted April 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Our vote goes to Roatan as well! i am bill Posted April 26, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Thanks for the input so far. How are the Sand Fleas at Tabyana Beach? Doesn't sound like there is much else to do in Roatan than snorkel. Is that a pretty fair assumption?

FantaSea Posted April 26, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2004 I just saw the sand flea question. We have not noticed sand fleas at Tabyana Beach. That is on the west side. They are bad on the east side. I'm not sure if that holds true all the time. Might be the wind or something else making the difference. It's just been that way for us. houtexme Posted April 27, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Roatan: Tabyana Beach. No sand fleas. I have heard this rumor, but never experienced it. We, however, were there in November - December. Perhaps it depends on the season. To be fair: I haven't been to Chankanaab (sp)in Cozumel, but will go there in September on the Sea. I understand it was great as well. Went to Dzul Ha in Cozumel last trip and it wasn't great.
travelhound Posted April 28, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Before we went on our cruise, I had also read about sand fleas in Roatan. I didn't want to take any chances, so I brought sunscreen with Off bug repellent in it. I'm not sure if there were sand fleas or if the sunscreen worked, but they didn't bother us. Have fun. Stevie17 Posted April 28, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 28, 2004 We were at Tabyana in late May, and we didn't have a problem with sand fleas. I did pack some bug repellent, but never had to use it.
