Would I enjoy the Sea??

This ship is about half the size of the others I've been on. Will I be disappointed? I love the ports of call it offers.

I loved the Sea. However, it was the first cruise for me, so I have nothing to compare it to. We enjoyed most of the ports and had wonderful shore excursions.

We thought the food was delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was good. We had one poor waiter for dinner, but it may have just been an off night for him.

The one question I would have is the cabin size. It actually didn't bother me as much as I thought it might, but if you are used to something else it may be a problem. There was sufficient room for our clothes. The bathroom was extremely small, with no storage room. We used an over-the-door organized, and it worked fine.

We were in a cheap cabin, on deck two. We didn't spend much time in the cabin, so the size didn't matter much. I wouldn't have wanted any more than two people in the room, as getting ready might have been interesting. But with one of you showering while the other gets dressed it worked ok.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for your reply!

Does the Sea have a grand entrance (atrium) area? Did the ship and pool seem small?

Thanks again!

It has a fairly small entrance area, on deck 4, with a fountain in the middle that is 2 levels tall. I think the area is referred to as the crystal court, due to the crystal fountain. The fountain runs up through to deck 5, and you can stand there and look down at level 4.

The shore excursion and other desks are located in this area on deck 4, along with one of the restaurants off to the side, and the hallway leading to the other restaurant on the other side.

The pool area seemed quite spacious to me. There are actually two separate pools, one larger than the other, with 2 hot tubs in the middle. We didn't have any trouble finding a space on the deck, but it was kind of cool and cloudy for both of the ship days, which may have made it seem less busy.

At first sight of the ship, it seemed VERY large, but, like I said, I hadn't cruised before so I'm lacking anything to compare it to.

We had a nice cruise on the Sea 2 years ago...nice crew, great food, good entertainment. We thought the ship was just fine, not a massive floating destination, perhaps, but fine for our purposes. The pool area was large, as ute_fan described very well.

The Sea provided us with an excellent cruise value and we had a fun trip.

I don't know. Much of your reaction depends on what you're looking for. If size and newness are high priorities, the Sea will probably be a disappointment. If the itinerary and price are too good to pass up, you'll probably be fine. I think, as long as you go into the cruise knowing that the Sea is an older, smaller ship with small cabins and nowhere near the dining options of the Dawn, for instance, then it's probably worth a shot. I enjoyed the food and entertainment on the Sea; the service was okay. The ship itself can be charming to some, but to others it probably doesn't offer enough in glitzy amenities.

Having been on the Sea twice and now the Dawn twice I really liked the Sea. It has a special feel of it's own but the beat thing it has is Kevin Warner the cruise director. He is the best out of all 10 cruises that I have been on. Enjoy it is a great ship!!!

I'll add my 2 cents worth..... DH and I cruised on the Sea Sept '03. We had a great cruise to Bermuda. The staff was friendly and attentive. We love freestyle cruising. Never waited more than a few minutes to be seated at a table for 2 usually around 8:30pm. The food was delicious, dinner usually took approx. 1 hr, which to me is appropriate pacing. The ship is pretty, not glitzy or flashy. The pool area is lovely and quite large. I never had trouble finding a lounge chair in the sun and DH always found one in the shade. The cabins are small and the decor is dated. We had a handicap accessible inside cabin. It was half again bigger than a standard with quite a large bathroom. There were a few problems with our room, a broken tile in the bottom of the shower stall, a small water leak into the main section of the cabin, probably caused by water leaking thru the broken tile space and a closet door that kept swinging open. We went to the pursers desk and politely discussed these issues. They were fixed within a few hours. The purser checked back to make sure all was fixed to our satisfaction, which is was. We did not receive any additional compensation, Nor did we ask for or expect any. Having the issues resolved in a timely fashion was fine.

We loved the Sea, had a great cruise.

If your expectations are appropriate with the knowlege that this is an older ship with small cabins you will enjoy the SEA.

Happy cruising, Kathy
