Just off Conquest

Welcome back. I was wondering who the cruise director was and how did you like him/her? Also, what movies did they have playing on the Lido deck? We are leaving in two weeks and didn't know if they might have the same movies when we sail. Oh, and you wouldn't happen to have the daily capers would you?

Wondering how embarkation was and if the Conquest is still as wonderful as I remember it. We leave next week and haven't been on it since 2004, so I'm sure there have been a lot of changes. Tell us all your perspectives!

Hi!

I am just off the conquest.....any questions?

LS

I am sailing in four weeks, but haven't been on the Conquest since 2004. I was wondering about the condition the ship, food at Sur La Mer and the shows.

I believe Paul and / or Hennie are serving as CD's.

The cruise was wonderful! We have done 4 and this was our favorite. Paul was the cruise director. Squishy was the asst director...and he was good too. They played music on the Lido deck and showed scenes of ports. At night they had movies--a wide varriety and showed concerts. The Magic was in the ports with us and many of the cruisers were complaining that all they showed was football games.

I do not remember seeing the Sur La Mur--dont think that is there unless it was the fish and chips place?

The ship was lovely. I really like the decor and the layout of the ship. It is going in for dry dock this year, so it is not in pristine shape, but beautiful none the less.

Embarkment was smooth.... off the ship by 9:00am and could have been off sooner.

Yes, I have all the daily Capers.

I think that answered all of them. Let me know if you have anymore! I am posting a review and will share it with you shortly.....

On sea days do they have a band or DJ playing on the Lido Deck. Thanks

On sea days we had a "band" playing for part of the day--2 or 3 guys.. It was good cruising music. They had pool games--hairy chest contest, dancing, scavanger hunt, etc. Some people thought the deck was too loud and noisy. (Some people love to complain.) There are other deck areas that were very calm and peaceful.

Did you stay in city the night before or did you fly in?

My last cruise from new orleans was on the triumph, and we stayed across the river (east banks?) but it was during mardi gras and rooms was hard to find.

Didnt really care for that area at all.

We flew in, took the E2 bus from the airport. Walked about 5 blocks to the JW Marriott. We stayed for 2 nights prior to the cruise. Walked down Canal Street to the street car, took it to the end of the line and walked to the terminal. JW is on Canal street as are other Marriotts. We really liked that location.

Is there a Serenity area with the lounge chairs and such? I don't believe there is, but the new Carnival site says that ALL ships have it.

Did the Casino have a quarter drop machine like you find on midways?

Are you going to write a review with pics? :D

Yes there was an adults only section on the ship--pool, hot tub, lounge chairs, food, drink etc. It is in the back of the ship.

I don't know if they took quarters or not? I do know they gladly took my sail n sign card:eek:

Review, definetly...pictures...I will see how this week at work goes. We did not take too many on the ship actually. Mainly in ports.

Did you do anytime dining? I was wondering which dining room had it and whether it was the upper or lower level?

Glad you had a good trip... can't wait to see your review.

No we did not do anytime dining. We did late in the Monet dining room. Renoir Dining room had the anytime dining...along with regular dining. We talked to quite a few people who had anytime dining and they were not happy with it. They said unless you went early, the waits were pretty long. I do not know that first hand...just what I heard. Several of these folks did ATD on NCL and said it was nothing like NCL. Keep in mind this was a holiday sailing too.

Hi MaryAnn-we were on the Conquest 12/4 and did ATD, in Renoir (as OP conveys), lower level. I should also mention that we went around 6 p.m. each evening. The only evening we experienced a wait was the first formal night (with lobster) and the wait was 30 minutes, in a line of unhappy, almost unruly, folks I might add. If I did ATD again, I would definitely arrive 7 p.m. or later on that night. Other than that, all was very well. Enjoy your cruise!

Hi there - we board the Conquest this Sunday - 1st time with Carnival. I have a question regarding the drink coupons - they say 4 coupons for $23.00 and limit it to the $5.75 drinks - is that worthwhile? can you tell me (if you drink alchohol) is purchasing the coupons before cruise is worth it or whether we are better off just charging to our account as we go. I am not sure what they charge for their drinks (cosmos, pina colodas...things like that)...any advice would help! We were also told we could bring 1 bottle of wine per person in our carry-on - hoping we didn't hear wrong...lol....also...sorry these questions are all alchohol related...are there any happy hours on the ship - on Holland there were 2 a day...thx so much!:)

Ahh no worries, alchohol is a factor in our cruises too....we did bring on two bottles of wine...no problem. We did bring/smuggle on hard liquior... so we did not buy a lot of booze. You are also allowed to bring on 1 12pack of soda per person so mixed our rum and cokes! I think the coupons may be worth it, but we did not hassle with it as we snuck on hard liquor. If I remember correctly, drinks were anywhere from 6-9$ depending on what you ordered. No happy hours that I saw--maybe I missed it. If you are a return cruiser, you will get invited to a special 45 min party where the booze is free and readily available. Also, look for the farewell party it is on the last night--we missed it and it was free booze too. Free champagne when you got on--plenty of it!

Also looking forward to the full review.

Question for me: Was there a poker table in the casino?

Question for my wife: Did you smuggle the booze in your carryons or checked luggage?

Question for my son (2 years old): Was there a splash pool for the really young kids to play in?
