Carnival in Hawaii?

we enjoyed the 12 day reposition cruises they had that you could get for a steal of a little more than $1000 for a 12 day cruise.

the prices they had for the 15 day round trip had my eyes bugging out of my head.

meanwhile, i hear the splendor is too big to do the channel in kauai. i have not read an update since. we found kauai to be the best stop of the trip, in addition to thoroughly enjoying the pacific crossing.

I wonder if they could tender at Kauai? If not, they may by-pass it. I can't remember which line it was, but when they did Hawaii they didn't do Kona and they tendered in Maui at Lahainia

When we sailed Carnival Spirit to Hawaii we tendered in to Kona. We originally were scheduled for one day docked in Kahului and the next tendering to Lahaina. About six months before the cruise Lahaina was cancelled in favor of over-nighting in Kahului. This worked out wonderfully.

It would be a shame if Splendor can't get into Kauai. It is a beautiful island. I doubt anchoring outside the breakwater is an option as the tides and surf are very strong.

We just did the 15 day to Hawaii on 12/2/2011 on the Spirit. We went to Hilo, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and finished up on Kona. All of them we docked except for Kona, we had to tender there. None of our stops were overnight. Would have loved that on everyone of the islands! On Kona it was just way too short of a time even though they started the tender at 7am. Since we didn't need assistance, were not VIP and didn't book an excursion through them we didn't get off until 9am and had to be back on by 4pm. The line to get back on the tender by 3:00 was huge! They did say they wouldn't leave without us if we're in line though. Thank goodness!!!

Loved each island. Can't pick a favorite because they are each so unique! I need to go back and see more of each so I can try to decide.:p:D

We are booked for the Hawaii RT from Long Beach, CA Jan. 2013. We were originally to stop at the Port of Kauai, but they have since deleted it from our sailing. Reason being that the Splendor is to large for the port. I was sorry to see we were going to miss the port.

Missing Kauai is a shame. What was it replaced with?

As for being the best stop it's one of several outstanding stops. For my money the only port we visited in Hawaii that I wouldn't consider a huge loss was Kona.Don't get me wrong Kona is lovely but missing The Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Volcanos National Park, Haleakala, Lahaina or Pearl Harbor would have been unacceptable.

kona was eerie, eh, especially with that white stone graffitti on the black lava along the roads.

the grand canyon of the pacific was breathtaking....Wamea or something like that?

Looks like they are getting an overnight in Honolulu~! 9am Sunday to 3pm Monday~ I would have loved that~! By the time we got done with our Arizona Memorial & Mighty Mo excursion it was 4pm~ we would have really like to have seen Waikiki in the daylight and gotten some beach time!

That's what we loved about the one way cruises to Hawaii. We had four sea days followed by seven port days with overnights on Maui and Honolulu as the last stop. The day we arrived in Oahu we rented a car and drove to the north shore. The next day was debarkation day and we transferred to a hotel on Waikiki Beach. The following morning we checked out and spent the day at Pearl Harbor before heading to the airport for our 6:00 pm flight home. I could have spent all three days at Pearl and will spend more next time.

A cruise is a wonderful way to get an idea of all the many things the beautiful state of Hawaii has to offer and narrow down the choices for the next trip.

So glad wen went when we did (Dec. 2, 2011) on the 15 day from San Pedro so we got to visit Kauai. Having an overnight on an island is great too. I sure wish they would have done a couple of those on our trip. I know it would have made for a longer cruise, but after having such bad seas on the way over (and on the way back) having a couple of additional days in Hawaii would have been wonderful.

As for Kona, I loved it; however, I didn't have much time on land. We went on the Body Glove snorkel and it was the most fun ever! I was wishing for more time so we could have explored the town a little more, but the snorkel trip took up all of our time.

I hope to go back sometime and I'm saddened that I won't be able to see Kauai if I take Carnival again. Maybe something can be figured out?

That had to be the Golden Princess. We were on her and that is exactly what we did.

We've done Hawaii twice with Carnival now - one way in 2006, and the round trip in December just gone. I actually preferred the round trip - the one way finished on seven port days, which were quite activity intensive, so that when we debarked we were pretty much worn out. The round trip finished on five sea days before LA, and we felt like we'd been on holiday by the time we left the ship.

We're back to Hawaii on Spirit again in September as part of the Vancouver-Hawaii repositioning, and this one includes overnight stops in Maui and Honolulu. We have a bundle of sea days, so it should be a nice trip. Of all the island port visits, I'd go to Kona an Nawiliwili again at the drop of a hat. Lovely parts of the world, and there's a great bar and grill in Kona right at the end of the wharf.

I did the 15 day cruise to Hawaii on the Spirit, lt left of Dec. 2, 2011. This was my first and last cruise. I booked this cruise to celebrate my 50th Birthday and was never so disappointed in my life.

In addition, not enough activities for the younger crowd, not enough time on the Islands, very poorly organized at San Pedro boarding, and very disorganized leaving the ship too.

Here is the letter I sent to Carnival:

Carnival Cruise Lines

Guest Care Department

3655 NW 87TH Avenue

Miami, Florida 33178

Dear Guest Care:

I would like to share my experiences and thoughts about my recent cruise with Carnival.

This was a significant celebration for me as I turned 50 years old. Achieving this stage of my life commanded an extraordinary trip. In my plans, I wanted to do something exciting and new, therefore, a 15 day Carnival Cruise to Hawaii was a perfect. The main reason for choosing Carnival was for its reputation of being a fun and energetic cruise line. Well, I have never been so disappointed in my life, what a way to celebrate a milestone in my life.

The booking number for this cruise was 923NK3, which had VIP status due to me traveling with my friend James P. Alo (Mr. Alo is a valuable VIP customer with 14 previous cruises on Carnival).

It all started with Embarkation. We were herded like cattle! No VIP treatment! Nothing to drink or eat for hours! I felt as if I was being segregated for processing at a concentration camp. A general announcement about boarding was made and there was a mass rush to the boarding area. There was no representative from Carnival to escort us to the ship. We were in the middle of mass chaos with no organized leader. I was never so disillusioned by a company that is known for its reputation of being fun and exciting.

My unpleasant experience continued the first night in the cabin. I did not sleep at all that night due to a very annoying agitating high pitch whistle coming from the balcony door. The door was warped and not making a complete seal, allowing air to enter the cabin causing the whistle. In addition, because there was air coming into the cabin through the balcony door, it also permitted cigarette smoke from adjacent balconies to fill the cabin with toxic cancer causing smoke.

It took nine days for the whistle from the balcony door to be fixed, 8 days of high pitch whistle all night long with the smell of cigarette smoke filling the room. We had to endure the smell of cigarette smoke for the entire 15 day cruise, this was unacceptable. As you can see in the picture #1, I had to have a large supply of Benadryl (which I purchased onboard at 3 times the retail price!) in order the prevent myself from going to the infirmary for my severe allergic reaction to cigarette smoke. When I made a statement to Guest Services about the cigarette smoke, they told me that nothing could be done. I find it disturbing that the health of a passenger is so easily dismissed and the rights of the smokers take precedence.

With all of the current smoking regulation I am disappointed to see that Carnival gives priority to smokers on their ships. Dividing the ship in half does not prevent the smoke from blowing into the faces of the nonsmokers on the other side of the ship. In addition, the intake for the HVAC system is drawling the smoke directly into the ship and this should be addressed and changed, ( suggestion, make the fantail the smoking area, this way the smoke will blow behind the ship and not affect the non-smoking passengers.

Although, Joan Sterling wanted to give us a down grade in room location (room in the back of the boat that was very noisy with vibration from the engine room or a room below the noise of the Lido Deck.

We booked a balcony cabin on this deck in order to be quiet and convenient. Downgrading was not an option, again, this was only offered after the fourth day of my continuing complaint. We did receive a small rebate on the room, however, it did not make up for the aggravation and loss of valuable vacation time.

On one occasion, the Stateroom Supervisor taped up the door to balcony, as you can see in picture #2

Disembarkment, very disorganized, took hours to get off the ship, again, VIP status meant nothing, corralled in the Cool Lounge, very hot, one passenger was smoking a cigar in the Cool Lounge, this should be Smoke Free during disembarkment, here again, the non-smokers rights have been violated.

I spent 7 hours of my valuable and special vacation visiting the Guest Services Desk, talking to the Stateroom Floor Supervisor and calling¸ before Joan Sterling did anything to correct the problem. Spending my valuable vacation time dealing with this issue made me very angry, agitated and tense, preventing me from relaxing and enjoying my vacation. I felt like I was working at my Job dealing with engineering problems.

I feel that Mr. Alo and I were not properly compensated for our unpleasant and aggravating experience from days of high pitch noise and constant exposure to unhealthy cigarette smoke.

In conclusion, I am very disappointed in Carnival Cruises. My 50th birthday celebration was flawed with multiple short comings caused by the lack of attention to details, disorganization, and unconserning attitude for the rights of nonsmokers.

Although, I do have to say that the ship was kept very clean and the Cabin Stewarts, Dining Room Staff, and Roaming Bar Servers were outstanding and friendly.

I feel that my opinion as the Executive Director of Environmental Engineering Quality Control and Assurance would be a valuable tool to make your cruise line better for future passengers.

Thank you for your time,

Jeffrey A. Simonetti, Executive Director of Environmental Engineering Quality Control and Assurance
