Where was I?

The first time I went to Nassau, we got off the ship and onto a water taxi. We took the water taxi somewhere, got off and walked (what seemed like forever) to a beach. Really - we followed everyone else and didn't really pay attention to where we were. It seemed like we walked about 20 minutes. We went along a roadway and around a hotel. We think the road was called Casino Drive. There was a sandy path that went uphill and when we got to the top - there was the ocean and the beach. We had to climb down a sandy and rocky path to get onto the beach. There was a hut/snack shack and we were able to rent a beach umbrella.

SO the question is....where was I? We are going back to Nassau in June and enjoyed the beach and want to go back (minus the water taxi) but I don't know what this beach was called.

It sounds like you went to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. The entrance to the public part of Cabbage Beach is next to the Riu (which may have been the hotel you mentioned). It is about a 20 minute walk from where the water taxis let everyone off. You don't need a water taxi to get there - you can take a regular taxi for about $1.00 more per person than it costs for the water taxi and they can drop you off a lot closer to avoid the long walk.

Is this what the path to the beach looked like? If so, that's definitely Cabbage Beach.

Yep, it was Cabbage Beach. You can take a taxi directly to the entrance if you don't want to walk from the water taxi.

hi,

a few questions....

how much is the public transit/taxi to cabbage beach?

Also, do they have facilities there ex restrooms etc.

How long does it take from where the ship docks to get there and back?

One last thing....would you say its better than junkanoo beach?

Thanks for your help!!

Shared Taxi to cabbage beach is $5pp. If you take a union cab (not shared) .... it's $11 plus $1 for the toll.. for 2 ppl Ea. add'l person is $3.

There are no restrooms or any other concession stands.

Locals (who are not licensed) rent chairs and sell rum drinks and water.

Generally the ride takes about 12 minutes.. but if you hit rush hour.. either morning or evening.. the ride can be more like 45-50 minutes.

Rush hours are 7:30am - 9am.. and 4:30 - 6:30pm

As far as which is better.. it depends.. Cabbage Beach is rougher, more windy and less protected. It is also closed quite often due to rough waves.

Neither have life guards.. but junkanoo is calm and doesn't really need one.

Personally I do not swim at Cabbage Beach for that reason.. There is an undertow and sometimes riptides.. and noone there to save you.
