macbasset Posted January 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We have a long weekend coming up in May and wondered which of these two ships would be better--- same length and itinerary. Is there anywhere to read all details since each has been refurbished? Anyone been or either or both and can tell me your thoughts?

kruzerci Posted January 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We like Majesty a lot better between the two. They're both old and small, but the Majesty feels more updated. We had a nice cruise, but thought the Monarch was pretty tired last month.
Clarea Posted January 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2012 There's a difference in specialty restaurants if that makes a difference: Majesty: Johnny Rockets ($5 per person flat fee) and Compass Deli (free) Monarch: Jade Sushi and Steakhouse (per item pricing)
ryano Posted January 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Im pretty sure on the last dry dock, other than some mechanical issues that needed fixed, the Monarch only got the pool area carpet replaced along with carpet replacement in other public areas. The Majesty had a more thorough dry dock but I believe its been 4 or 5 years ago. The Majesty has the Compass Deli (included) and Johnny Rockets (4.95 per person). Monarch has neither of those. The cabins other than suites and the deck 9 SOV cabins are tiny on both ships.
SuchAVirgo Posted January 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We have been on both. I thought the Majesty was kept up better than the Monarch.. However the Monarch is like 20 mins from home so for convienance reasons we have been on the Monarch more.
Kidsgoneletscruise Posted January 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Our family fell in love with Majesty some years ago. She was our first ship and still remains one of our favorites! :)
lrn2cruise Posted January 9, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 9, 2012 I wish the Monarch was 20 minutes from my house:( I am about 4 hours away from Galveston. The only short cruises out of there are Carnival
Carolina_Girl Posted January 9, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We will be on the Monarch again for the 3rd time in 4 days. We have never had any complaints about her! Her crew is THE BEST!!!! I have also never been on the Majesty to compare though. Good luck on making your decision!
kijjy Posted January 9, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We will be on the Monarch .....Her crew is THE BEST!!!! I cannot begin to tell you how much I agree with this... Monarch crew is THE best, hands down.
TBR Posted January 9, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Majesty hands down,I have sailed on her twice in the last three months. The four night itinerary on the Majesty is one of my favorities for a short cruise.
Flossie Posted January 9, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We really love the Majesty have sailed on this ship five times and had a great cruise every time, my favorite ship so far is the Voyager ... we were on Majesty in Oct and it still looked great even for the age of the ship. The staff on Majesty has always been great we think ... we have never had a bad cruise on any ship tho.... some better then others but never a bad one! PH8 Posted January 9, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Ship wise,I would pick the MJ........but like others its so much easier for me to go to Port Canaveral than Miami..
vafatboy Posted January 9, 2012 #15 Share Posted January 9, 2012 We have done both ships and they both are great. If I had to compare the two. Staff-Monarch wins Ship-Majesty wins Food-Monarch wins Port--Monarch wins hands down. They are really close. We prefer to do the Monarch because of location. Driving to Port Canaveral is super easy. No traffic at all. Miami is 3 hours further for me and it can be crazy down there. Either one will be a great cruise. Rob;)
Trekker954 Posted January 10, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 10, 2012 I was surprized when I sailed the Majesty (many times) as no one has mentioned the clientele on the Majesty. Its 30-40 yo group, lots of South Beach types, lots of families who pulled their kids out of school for a long weekend. But I do enjoy the Majesty, while my daughter hates it.
