Ship Transfers to New Orleans Airport?

Need some info. How is it disembarking from Carnival Conquest in New Orleans? We booked Carnival transfers from the ship to the airport. I'm thinking about canceling them and taking a taxi to the airport. Is this a wise move? We will only have carry-ons and will self-disembark.

 

Also we will be staying in NO a few days before the cruise. So we will be taking a taxi from the airport to our hotel. I also see that a public bus may be an option from the airport to the business area in NO. Anyone have info on this.

Thanks for your reply. I just canceled my transfers with Carnival. 99.9% of the time, we never take the ship's transfers. Don't know what I was thinking of when I booked this cruise.

 

Now, if only I can figure out the New Orleans public bus system from the airport to the hotel on Canal St. and from the cruise pier to the airport If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Or maybe we will just take a taxi.
