Navigator of the Seas

Need any info on this ship. Planning a cruise Dec 2012. How far away from the airport is the cruise terminal and what do the transfers cost? What is a good thing to do in New Orleans the day before sailing ? What is the condition of this ship. Is the Gulf of Mexico nice to sail in? Thanks for any opinions.

We are booked on the 11/24 cruise for Western Caribbean. (M&M thread already open.) Excited to visit New Orleans - reserved hotel room yesterday.

We sailed Navigator in November for an 8-day Eastern Caribbean. Apart from the embarkation disaster it was a good cruise. (We booked her again.)

Also, Voyager is currently sailing the itinerary. To get an idea of the shore excursions available, I pulled a brochure for an upcoming voyage. There will be a lot to do (the book was 106 pages). Granted, items could be added / deleted - but at least we will have a good idea of what is out there.

There have been a couple of great reviews recently on Voyager cruises out of New Orleans. I suggest reading silentbob007's thread in particular and asking any particular followup questions there. He's active on the boards and gives fair, detailed insight.

The Voyager is the same class as the Navigator, so in addition to the itinerary and geographical review, you'll get a good sense of the types of activities offered. We've been on the Navigator 3 times, and while she is getting older, she's still a great ship that provides plenty to do and see.

Which hotel?

Found JWMarriott at an excellent rate. Good location (appears to be close to port). Plus, the rate includes breakfast for 2 for up to $20 pp. The good thing is it is not an advance purchase, just need a credit card to secure room. Can cancel anytime up to 3 days prior to arrival without penalty. Looking at the rates on web travel site, we noticed rates appear kind of pricey, so we decided to go ahead and make the reservation. If we find something better we can cancel - otherwise, we are set.

Now just need for airfares to drop. Are you joining us?
