Return from SEA or YVR: WWYD?

It looks as if I am going to book the Sapphire returning to Vancouver on 6/2. I have a one night stay at the Hyatt in Vancouver for 6/2 and my return choices are from SEA at 12:50 am or from YVR (Vancouver) at 7:50 pm conncecting to that same Seattle flight. The problem is that leaves me with a 4 hour layover in SEA. Would you drive to Seattle and return from there or just return from Vancouver? The cost is the same (the Canadian taxes for the use of ff miles=the one way car rental picking up at Canada Place) and I have a 4pm guaranteed checkout at the hotel. Thanks.

Personally I'd drive. In June the days will be long, so I'd head south in the late afternoon, take Chuckanut Drive (SR 11) from Fairhaven (south end of Bellingham) along the water's edge to SR 20, then back to I-5 and into Seattle. Have dinner someplace in the city - maybe the waterfront, or South Lake Union, depending on your preferences. Watch the sun set behind the Olympic Mountains, then plan to get the car to the airport around 9 or 10, with plenty of time to check in for your red-eye to MSP.

Might as well turn that afternoon and evening into something productive compared to waiting at YVR for a couple of hours (you need to pre-clear US immigration and customs) then wait again at SEA for 4 hours. Bleh.

There may be a little wait at the border in the car - watch the highway reader boards or listen to the radio in Canada for border delay notifications - you have a choice of routes.
