cruiseanywhere2 Posted January 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Hi everyone We are on the Ventura TA leaving Barbados on 10 March does anyone have any idea of: 1. sailaway time? 2. is the drill held before sailaway or the day after? 3. how do you book the tour of the Kensingtin Oval? Thank you Christine
littlemissnaughty Posted January 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2012 We are also on this cruise so am interested to know the sail away time also. I would imagine the Drill will be before we sail as it could be too late once we've left.
louthebowler Posted January 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2012 according to the kensington oval web page, tours are only mon to fri. am interested in when the muster drill will be too, on rci it was the day we boarded, which seems the most sensible time. cosytoes Posted January 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Drill is usually the next day when you are at sea.
littlemissnaughty Posted January 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Surely that's a little late, lets hope nothing happens on the first day!!
Ange66 Posted January 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2012 I am also on this cruise and I have read somewhere that we sail from Barbados at 7.30pm. I think it would be safe to assume that the muster drill will be the day we board seeing as we'll all be in St Lucia the next day!
sammydo Posted January 18, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2012 I am sure that the muster drill will almost certainly be before you leave Barbados. In all the P&O cruises that we have been on, the drill has always been just before leaving the port, and all the passengers have boarded.
cruiseanywhere2 Posted January 18, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted January 18, 2012 I think it depends on the time all the flights have landed and passengers boarded, it will be a couple of hours after that. First sitting starts at 6:30 unless it's open dining. Not sure what will happen if there are any flight delays. Our flight from Gatwick is scheduled to land at 2:15 should be at the port by 3:00 all on board latest 4:00. Does anyone else have any flight times? BrianI Posted January 18, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 18, 2012 We have done two transatlantics. The sailtime from Barbados is around 8pm and the muster was done before sailing. The first night dining is open seating with one the main restaurants open on a continuous basis as people are arriving at different times. On the Sat night the Friday arrivals will be dining at their designated table in one of the Club restaurants, with the Sat arrivals in the other on open seating. There is also the Freedom dining restaurant and the self service buffet. If there are any flight delays, the ship will wait. It is not far to the next island so even if the ship leaves at midnight it will still get there on time. When we had the heavy snow last year one flight was delayed 24hours and the ship still waited. The returning passengers had an extra night on board. Brian
Mr Blue Sky Posted January 19, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 19, 2012 We are also on this cruise so am interested to know the sail away time also.I would imagine the Drill will be before we sail as it could be too late once we've left. We were recently on Azura departing Barbados, there was 2 days of flights Friday and Saturday which we were on, we had lifeboat drill before we departed on the Saturday evening around 6ish, when we assume all flights from the UK had arrived, and sailed at 7.30 ish. On previous Celebrity Cruises we have always had a drill about an hour to 2 before departing.
Lindypops Posted January 19, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Our flight from Manchester is scheduled to land at 3.25pm. Our booking info states that check in closes at 3.45pm! That could be a bit of a rush! Don't worry the ship will not sail until everyone is on board . If the flight is delayed the ship will wait. You get off the plane onto a bus on the tarmac and are taken direct to the ship. P & O are in control from the mintue you check in.
luladoo Posted January 19, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Last year our flight from Leeds on the saturday was very late. The ship waited for us but there was a separate muster drill the following day just for the late arrivals.
Essexlass2 Posted January 19, 2012 #15 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Hi everyoneWe are on the Ventura TA leaving Barbados on 10 March does anyone have any idea of: 1. sailaway time? 2. is the drill held before sailaway or the day after? 3. how do you book the tour of the Kensingtin Oval? Thank you Christine Hi Christine Sailaway time will be after everyone has arrived on the Saturday. Muster drill is on Friday for those arriving that day and again on Saturday for those arriving that day and the ship will sail after everyone has arrived on board. We just turned up at the Kensington Oval on the Friday morning before we were due to leave for the airport after lunch. We were the only ones there but someone was called to the admissions gate and we had a personal tour and the lady even opened up lots of areas for us to see including the gift shop in case we wanted to buy souvenirs. Its only a few minutes walk from the cruise terminal or a taxi will be about $5 but its so easy to walk and you will pass Cricket Legends of Barbados Museum on the way. Just past there you will see a lovely statue of Sir Garfield Sobers, turn right there and the entrance to the Oval is there on the right. Enjoy your holiday! :)

cruiseanywhere2 Posted January 20, 2012 Author #18 Share Posted January 20, 2012 Very true, we are not going to make the Oval this time, never mind will make it one day. Thank you for all your replies they have been very helpful.
kaznaid Posted January 22, 2012 #19 Share Posted January 22, 2012 Hi Just returned from Azura and we had our muster drill just before sailaway on the Saturday - about 6.pm. Assume it is similar on Ventura! K
