Caribbean in January

Is January traditionally a rougher time at sea? When we went last time in January the ocean was very wavy near Cozumel. But, is that to be expected in the caribbean that time of year?

I've been on 29 CCL cruises and I've had rough waters in March but I do not know if one month the waters are rougher that other months but that is a good question.

We were on the Legend last week and it was very smooth.

We were on the VALOR last January and there were a couple of days that the waters were pretty rough.

I've cruised in Jan, Feb, June, July, Oct, Nov & Dec. Every cruise is totally different as far as the seas go. Depneds on weather fronts and tropical systems. If I were you, I wouldn't worry at about it and just enjoy the cruise.

When on RCCL in January of 2010 we did some minor "rolling" on some 3-5 foot seas. Nothing major. Mostly on the way to Cozumel. On the way back we were in clear blue skies and were pretty calm.

We almost always cruise in January, sometimes the waters are a little rough and cause us to miss a port (Disney's Castaway Cay, and Grand Cayman are two that I remember) but it's not always rough. Our cruise last January was super smooth, we could never even feel the motion at all when we were on the ship.

We were on the Dream (W. Caribbean) last week, and the waters were smooth.

I think it really depends on where you leave from. When we leave from Florida-we usually have a day or so going out and coming back that are pretty rough but if we leave from San Juan-usually smooth sailing from the start (although we have had a few rough trips leaving San Juan too...). We ALWAYS go in Jan too:) Leaving in 2 days!!!!!
