Any Suggestions??

If you haven't already, you'd probably really enjoy going to the Ports of Call section and checking under BAHAMAS. Lots of good info on Nassau there. It's just another board on CC so you can ask questions there as well.

The Yellow Bird Catamaran is FUN!

Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

Hi BahamasGirl18, if the beaches and tours don't work out, check out Atlantis. The sprawling resort is not everyone's cup of tea, but it is somewhat of a landmark. And if nothing else you might be able to spot a celebrity. We saw Muhammad Ali last year!

Cheers, and enjoy your cruise!

We've been west and east Caribbean and Nassau was the only place that I would have been just as happy to stay on the ship.

No wait, get off and buy a couple Bacardi rum cakes at the first place you see, then go back to the boat.:)

Edit: And wear a sign saying "NO, I don't want my hair braided."

I was going to vote for the Atlantis resort. We did this while we were in the Bahamas in Sep 01. We had a great time. :)

ROFLMAO .... :D :D

We were walking around St. Thomas, and looking for pearls, and this lady comes up to Naren and me, and says something.

We totally felt like Eric Cartman when he's down in Mexico, and he's talking really fast, and the locals just reply with "Que?" LOL.

We asked her to repeat what she was saying, but it just came out louder. Finally she demonstrated. She was asking if I wanted my hair braided! LOL

Too funny! :D

We were in Nassau last September (what a way to evacuate from the hurricanes in FL!) and went to the Hilton to book a tour of the city. While it was interesting to drive around in a bus and "see the sights", there's not much to see there. We went to all the major forts and also saw the queen's staircase (pretty neat). Unfortunately, at each stop a different guide was waiting to show us the place, so we had to tip him (on top of tipping the guide on the bus that showed us things along the way...) sheesh! Overall, we chalked it up to helping the local economy. :)

We finished our tour at the Anacostia Gardens and Zoo. We were the only ones to do this, which was fine by us. The bus let us off there and took the rest of the passengers to their hotels. We were at the zoo around 3:30 pm and had about 75 minutes or so to explore. There was NO ONE ELSE THERE! We had the place to ourselves for about 30 minutes, then two teenagers came in and a family of 4. By that time, we were at the parrot cage (not the macaws... the little ones) participating in the feeding. The zookeeper asked if we wanted to help and of course we said yes! We went into the aviary and took a piece of apple in each hand. As soon as we did that the parrots just flocked to us (literally!). If we held out our arms they would perch on the arms and take turns getting to the apple in our hands. At one point my husband had 7 birds on him (3 on each side and one on his head!). What fun!! We were told that this helps socialize the birds.

We then walked across the path to the show arena and waited for the trained flamingo show to start. All of the zoo patrons (all 8 of us!) spread out in the hexagonal seating area. When the flamingos came in their trainer had them stop at each family group (on his command) and then go to the next group. He had them go back and forth, turn around, etc. It was really cool! They've been doing it for 25 years and are the only trained flamingos in the world. At the end, they let one person from each group go into the ring and pose with the flamingos (of course, that person had to strike a "flamingo" pose...) -- What a hoot!

Of everything we did on the entire cruise, this will always stand out as the most memorable. You should check it out, too.

I have been to Nassau what seems like a few thousand times. If I were you I would get away from the cruise ship area by taking a local number 10 bus, you can board across from the straw market. For one dollar this will take you to cable beach ( about 15 minutes) where there is several eating places, casino, beach with all the rentals. Also you can tell the bus driver to stop at the "Fish Fry", get off there and if you like fish or conch dishes, you will not find any better in the world. CHEAP prices. This is where the locals eat. Once you have finished walk to the road you were left off at and board the 10 bus for a dollar more and in 15 minutes you are back to the cruise ship area. Hope this helps!

Xine, I forgot all about the trained Flamongos ! Your are correct, they were very good. When we were there a guy was walking around with a huge Python snake and would put it over your shoulders and let you take a picture. The wifester was scared but did it anyway. Great pic!
