Rhodes - Car rental or Taxi??

If you just want to go to a beach and them back to old town you might consider just using the local buses. Its a bit cheaper then taxis or a rental car for a simple beach trip. You can ask for a bus map and specific route info at the tourist office (they also usually have folks right by the pier). There are some decent beaches within 6 or 7 miles of town so the ride is not too long. If you can get another couple to share a taxi it is also pretty reasonable to the closer beaches. As to strikes, they are pretty rare on any of the Greek Islands (including Rhodes).

Thanks for the insight. Are the local buses usually crowded? My mom is extremely claustrophobic and can't handle being smashed in between people :o
