Do They Offer A Behind The Scenes Tour On Dawn Princess

Just wondering if anyone could advise me if they offer a behind the scenes tour on the Dawn Princess. We are travelling on the Dawn Feb 17(13 day Melb -NZ -Melb) and I would love to take the tour. I found some info on it and it looked current but wasnt sure

 

"One special offering is the Ultimate Ship Tour, which takes passengers behind the scenes on the ship to places like the galley, bridge, backstage area of the theater, engine control room and funnel. The three-hour tour costs 175 AUD and participants receive an official chef's jacket, personalized stationery, luxurious bath robe and a framed photo taken with the captain."

Yes they do! We did the tour on Dawn Princess in early December and loved it. The tour went for over 3 hours and we went all over the ship including down the the hot and steamy laundry.

The tour is conducted on a sea day and Princess need a minimum of 6 people (which is the number we had) to run the tour.

 

You need to go to the Purser's desk and put your name down. We did that as soon as we got on board. We heard that a number of people were trying to put their name down later in the cruise but Princess were not running any more tours.

 

Good luck you will enjoy it - (not sure about the usefulness of the chef's jacket but the bathrobe is very thick and plush :))

On our Cherry Blossom tour we had a large an active roll call...we were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the kitchens and the bridge..I dont expect that they do this for every roll call (free of charge) but our group was feeling very well looked after. Fascinating to see the organisation behind a smooth running cruise, the logistics of the kitchens are mind boggling.

On our trip round NZ on the Sun Princessin December I did the Ultimate Ship Tour which was really very good. I put my name down the day we sailed as I had heard spaces might be limited. As it was there were only 7 of us and it was held on the 2nd sea day. However later in the cruise there were free tours of the galleys and the backstage of the theatre. I should think this might be the same on the Dawn.

At $ 175 you are getting some very expensive souvenirs, at that price the tour is an absolute rip-off . On at at sea day it would could Princess NIL to put on as the staff are paid anyway .

I don't agree that the tour is a rip-off. Yes it is expensive but both my DH and I (as well as others who did the tour) agreed that it was worth every cent. If I thought it had been a rip-off I wouldn't recommend the tour to others. In fact the opposite is the case.

we havent done the tour but we have heard glowing reports about the tour and you do get your moneys worth.....you know the price up front so if you dont want to do it you dont have too

I agree too very expensive...but everyone I spoke to that had taken it loved it..so its another way for the ship to be viable and only those that want to spend the money do bit like the casino LOL (otherwise known as the donation centre).

I did it on my "half" world cruise last year on the Dawn and loved it. So much so that when I went with my sister and her partner to NZ in November on the Sea Princess I signed up again with them, sadly though not enough folks had signed up so it didn't happen. On the world crusie our cc group had a tour of the bridge and when on the Sea there were free tours of the galley and the theatre......the queues were very long!!

So I would say if you get a chance do it, we signed up not long after we got on both ships.

There are always free tours of the galley, but they are a mob scene where you just shuffle through. Depending on the cruise director, there are often tours of the backstage area.

 

These tours are totally different from the Ultimate Ship tour. I haven't done it yet, but would like too. I have heard only great reports.:)
