Expenses on a cruise

Thanks for the info. Still haven't found any links that shows available cabins.

I assumed that most doors on veranda suits were of the small type. Nice to hear that there exists some additionals thar are wider. We need one that are minimum 70 cm. Or fold the chair.

I believe that only the specific for the disabled suites have larger doors.

I read the sticky about dress code.

And there was a reference there I did not understand.

Hosted table?

I would have imagine that whenever we arrive to the dining room we would be asked if we wanted to dine alone, or share a medium or big table.

So not sure what hosted table is.

Sometimes you will be invited to a table 'hosted' by one of the ship's officers. It is not obligatory and it is up to you if you want to join the table. It is, however, a nice way to meet people.

The process is like this: earlier in the day (most times) you will receive an invitation to join a table of 8 or so, hosted by an officer, member of the entertainment staff, guest lecturer, or guest entertainer. These are generally delightful and a nice way to meet some fellow cruisers. All you have to do is RSVP to the Pursers' Desk. Now, if you prefer not to do this, there is no problem declining. You might want to dine at one of the other venues, or with other friends, or perhaps in your suite. (Remember that the menus for both lunch and dinner in the MDR are available for room service delivery). OK, you are still available to dine at a table for 2 or may ask to join another couple. the large tables are taken up by the Hosted tables. It's harder to get to know everyone at the hosted table because they are large. Couples are often separated, so you can meet others. But you can sit together. Sometimes when one of a couple has a hearing or sight deficit, they certainly can be placed side by side. Service is somewhat slower at the larger tables, obviously. I particularly enjoy them, and in the beginning of the cruise, it's a great time to get a head start on things. If you wish not to be invited at all, just mention this to the Purser. If, you want to dine with others, you can also call the pursers and request being added to a hosted table if there is a vacancy. This often happens. There are name cards at each place which help a lot. Hope this clarifies things for you.

By the way, should you wish a special meal prepared, just speak to the Maitre d' of the MDR 24 hours in advance.

Thank you for the information. When on RCCL we always ask for a big table and most of the time we will have good company. So this seems to be something that we will enjoy (if we get an invitation.)

And in good company, having "slower" service is not a problem. We've had a few times in the past where we have left the dining room just when they start to seat second eating ;)

Cheers, Atle

Sorry for asking so many questions in the same thread, but that keeps it much simpler for me for later references.

So here goes another.

Apparently there will be some liqour in the stateroom.

I am a cognac guy and my preference is Courvasiour. For "daily" use I am OK with one of their vsop's and for more "serious" use I use the XO.

Is cognac an alternativ?

I can live with that. And my wife can live very well with it, since Remy Martin is one of her favorites :)

Can actually be used as another argument. Even though that "battle" is probably won. Just a matter of getting other stuff cleared out.

I wish you could meet my Seabourn sailing "buddies" from Bergen ~

super nice gentlemen! They are regulars and we've enjoyed sailing together many times ~Also my 'ole good friends from Fredrikstad. (he works in Oslo ~Gov.)

You will enjoy dining at hosted tables ~I accept a few invitations but not all ~I actually like a smaller dinner table ~for 4, usually with sailing friends. Dining at the Patio Grill (Deck 8) is so enjoyable as well ~weather permitting, of course. You will meet grrrreat and fun shipmates and will probably want to invite them to dine with you and your wife. Lunch in the dining room is also quite lovely ~

By the way.......the 'ole "hound dog" statue sculpture on Deck 5 is named "Tex, the Dawg" ~Captain Elliott named him! Sometimes sailors will place a bowl of water for him......or a few snacks on a bread plate!

Enjoy your Sunday!

>"(if we get an invitation.)"

If you don't get an invitation in the first few days, let the Pursers know and you will be included.

First I will need to book. Sent in an request to Seabourn this morning, but so far no answers.

Didn't really expect to have any response before this afternoon, but was hoping that they would have looked at it first thing their morning.

Well, guess I just have to wait a bit.

Call the Seabourn Seattle office at : 7:30 pm (your time)

It will be : 10:30 a.m. Seattle time

They will be happy to hear from you and will be able to book your Sojourn sailing ~also answer any questions you may need.

Martita B.

For some reason I thought they were on the eastcoast.

No wonder I have not had any response yet.

Was kind of expecting the (for me) normal 6 hours differences.

Will call them tonight before their lunchtime.

Thanks both of you to pointing it out for me.

Cheers, Atle

Well, until last year about this time, Seabourn was on the East Coast in Miami. But then the management was absorbed into the HAL structure, and they are located in Seattle. Just think, trading all that sun in Florida for all that rain in Seattle. Although on a clear day, it's stunning there.

That is probably the reason I thought they were on the east coast. I was looking into them about 2 years ago, but it never came to be (so far)

But it must be something with Seattle, apparently a lot of Norwegians or people with Norwegian ancestors living there. Guess it reminds them of home :)

If this has not yet been mentioned I strongly suggest you get yourself an experienced luxury cruise TA and book through him/her.

I couldn't find any Norwegian TA's that were specialists. And those listed here and other places didn't seem to offer anything more on this particular sailing. And since it is in pretty near future (as in about 6 weeks I decided to go directly.

So had a nice chat with a lady at the Seabourn office and she will send me the booking for a cabin on deck 9 via email for review.

So time for my evening coffee and then check my email a bit later :)

The Captain on your Norway sailing was Captain "Dag" ~he's now with Seabourn and in fact is presently Mastering the Seabourn Spirit ~in the Caribbean.

I've not sailed with him but have heard many nice things about him ~thought he'd be Captain on the Spirit March TA but Captain David Bathgate (Scottish) will Master.

Martita B

Sorry to drag this into OT land, but do you know who the Captain of the Pride will be in July/August of this year?

For those who are interested and have been helping me decide...

Cruise is ordered and finalized.

Air to Miami and from Nice is in box.

Just missing a hotel in Ft Lauderdale area.

Before it has been very easy. I have always taken out a car and found a suitable Residence Inn. Love the idea of having a big fridge to put stuff into :)

This time I will get a transportation to a hotel and try to sleep there for a night before bording.

I trust our responses to your questions and other comments have been helpful and I hope that you and your wife have a wonderful cruise with Seabourn.

Don't hesitate to post any other questions you may have and make sure you get a referral from someone on this board. It is worth $400 to you.

Congratulations Atle - you've made a great choice! Don't forget to do the referral coupon for the $400 OBC - see the sticky at the top of the forum. May I suggest the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale for your pre-cruise stay - we had a very comfortable one night post-cruise stay there. They couldn't have been more helpful and considerate to us. But there are lots of other places and I'm sure Miss Martita B could recommend somewhere. Oh and take her suggestion of dinner at Grille 66 - at Pier 66, at the Hyatt - you could stay there also. Grille 66 is right on the water and if the blinds are up on the terrace, they allow you to smoke! Not that I'm encouraging you to smoke in a restaurant but hey even a Norwegian needs a break! ;):)

Have a lovely cruise and thank you for starting one of the most interesting threads since Seabourntraveller wrote his epic from the Legend! :)
