Azura: Duty Free onboard?

Kernel Fudge

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I read a previous post stating that Ventura had 'trialled' a duty-free shop (what a good idea! , and that this was being rolled-out on Azura. Any of you good people know if this is the case? and if so, an idea on prices etc?

cheers!

Kernel.

We were on the Azura in November and they were doing this...Absolutely brilliant it was and used very well...

If I roughy remember, prices were £10/11 for your litre bottle of vodka/gin etc and £12/13 for your Baileys...

Although I dont smoke apparently prices for these were amazing as well...

Hopefully they will keep this going for sometime to come as I would sail P & O in a heartbeat again because their prices overall for everything was fantastic...

We fly out to the Azura on Saturday.

Just to clarify - you can buy duty free and take it to your cabin to consume.

Is that spirits (do they have Highland Park) only, or include wine.

Yes, you take it to your cabin to consume. Don't know about Highland Park, but there was Teachers, Grouse and J & B.

Yes your cabins steward can get you most things... there will be a list in your cabin.

Stewards on Ventura and Azura no longer get spirits for you due to the duty free shops. They can still get you soft drinks, mixers, water and bottles of beer.

Does the Duty Free shop have special offers?

On RCL there were 'never to be repeated' offers on the first night with a long queue. The offers were then repeated several times during the cruise! But it was a good deal.

At the prices P&O are charging you don't need "special never to be repeated" offers. They were very good indeed - such as £11 for a litre of Bombay Sapphire export strength. Other spirits were £8 a litre. You can drink any of it in your cabin and re-stock to take home before the end of the cruise.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last week we travelled on the Azura.

The Azura's duty free shop do a price match scheme. My sister bought her cigarettes from the Azura shop. When we visited St Maarten we found them on sale for much less. I took a photo of the cigarette price ticket. When I got on board I showed the picture to the Azura duty free shop assistant and my sister got £17 refunded to her. :)

No wind up.

On RCL there is a huge fantastic duty free shop.

On the first evening and other times during the cruise there were special offers. Although the duty free prices were really good, the special offer events were even better.

Although been with P&O for over 30 cruises, we have yet to experience one of their Duty Free Shops.

So I was only asking ..... why should you think it is a wind up ???

Less than ten bucks for a Litre of spirit, I wonder how much they buy it for?

working within the drinks industry , we sell Whisky / Vodka to distributors , supermarkets etc...for anywhere between £35 - £50 per case (12 bottles) before duty is added , this would be for brands such as Teachers , Bells , Whyte and Mackay etc... , therefore it costs £3 - £5 per bottle , obviously premium brands will sell for a little more (Bombay , Chivas , Johnny Walker etc) , and then Malts will be higher again.

The P&O prices are cheaper than i can get in the staff shop as we have to pay duty

Hope this helps
