troutfisherman Posted March 22, 2012 #26 Share Posted March 22, 2012 Why would the sun never set in the Baltics? The Arctic Circle is quite a ways north of there. But yes, you would have twilight instead of complete darkness. Quite correct, as I would expect someone from Alaska to be ;) Helsinki for example is 435 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Have been to the Baltic more times than I can remember as the family come from Finland. Sweden and Finland are great it's just a pity being on a cruise you do not get time to see some of the countryside. If you get time in Stockholm you must visit the old town, Gamla Stan and take a ferry (Yes more boats;)) to the archapeligo, for example Vaxholm and do not forget the Vassa ship museum, that is a must and very close to the centre of the city. It is a warship that sunk in Stockholm harbour in 1628 and it's complete and inside a large building. For the kids there is an amusement park called Junibacken also in the city. Enjoy the baltic, it's great:D but I am a little biased ;)
chukli Posted March 31, 2012 #27 Share Posted March 31, 2012 I´ve done the blatics three times. Twice in May and once in August. May is the time to go to experience the white nights in St. Petersburg. We are doing this cruise in May and just wondering about the ports of call and what would be the best way to see the city? Some ppl have suggested the HOHO buses, but not sure what order to see the places of interest if the HOHO was the way to go.Any advice would be most appreciated.
