Waltzing Reg Posted February 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2012 As a Navy retiree (and being on a stablized ship), rough seas generally do not bother me, but my wife tends to have some seasickness on cruises. Can anyone who has been on the Circle Hawaii Cruise tell me if the weather and seas were unusually rough and whether there was more seasickness than usual on the trip? My recollection is that the seas between the continental US and Hawaii can be rougher than expected. Thanks.
GmaPajama Posted February 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2012 My experience was the first two and the last two days the ship was rocking and rolling. I think that's pretty much the case when heading west from San Diego. Other than those four days, the seas were delightful.
dobbsie Posted February 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We had 4 days of rough seas after leaving San Diego. After that was smooth sailing all the way. This was in December. I'm lucky not be bothered by rough seas.
pam vessels Posted February 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Usually rough for a couple of days out of Cali. In the islands the Molikai channel is really rough going.

Krazy Kruizers Posted February 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We did the Hawaiian cruise the end of March. Two rough sea days when we left San Diego. The last 2 sea days back to San Diego were rough. We also had very rough seas the day we tendered to Lahaina -- extremely rough tender rides -- for a couple of hours all tender service was stopped. Cruiser from MS Posted February 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We cruised to Hawaii on the Golden Princess a couple of years ago, and that had to be the roughest cruise we have ever been on. I thought we were going to be thrown off of the bed a couple of times.....
RMLincoln Posted February 1, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We went out in December and didn't have what I'd call rough seas but we had long frequency pitching which some folks found uncomfortable. We though it was interesting to look from the back of the ship and watch it dip and rise. m--
picture Posted February 1, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We went in Oct and the seas were fine. No problems. We do not however, get sea sick but I did not notice anyone on that cruise who indicated the seas were rough.
FLACRUISER99 Posted February 1, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Went RT to Hawaii from LA on the Sapphire Princess in January and the ocean was like a lake for all 14 days!
woody73 Posted February 2, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2012 We also had very rough seas the day we tendered to Lahaina -- extremely rough tender rides -- for a couple of hours all tender service was stopped. At Lahaina, does HAL use its own lifeboats or local boats for tenders? Woody
LordSpain Posted February 2, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2012 Hal uses its own lifeboats/tenders. Bruce
Viesczy Posted February 2, 2012 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2012 I've found that the first night or so away from coast are "rough" for those with weak sea legs in either ocean. For those landlubber some ginger usually helps. Derek
andeesue Posted February 2, 2012 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2012 We were on the holiday cruise last year and YES, it was very rough the first two days out of San Diego. Many miserable people and lots of funny walking! Outside deck closed for walking at times. We were okay, but took it very easy moving about. We were told that that was typical... late Dec/early Jan. Rockfan2 Posted February 3, 2012 #15 Share Posted February 3, 2012 We sailed out of Vancouver last Sept and hit very rough weather the first night and ended up stalling near Victoria and that night it was so rough that our night table drawers were going out and going in going out and going in. The next day was supposed to have a formal night but it was postponed due to so many passengers not willing to come out of their cabins. We were only making headway of about 2 knots/hour. I could have walked faster. Lots of sea sick bags at the elevator. We missed our first port of call, Kona, due to the weather. Later in the cruise we missed our Maui port of call as we were facing six foot swells for the tender and as the average age on this cruise was 79 the Captain did not want to risk any passengers scrambling onto it. Captain made an announcement that he had been sailing 30+ years and this was his second roughest crossing . Rockfan2
Riversedge Posted February 3, 2012 #16 Share Posted February 3, 2012 We sailed to Hawaii from San Diego last March and the seas were very calm.
