Cabin Upgrades

Hello, I was just checking on prices on the cruise I booked. It seems there are very few ocean view rooms left. (Which is what I booked) Is it possible I could get upgraded to a balcony? Do they call you or email you to offer the upgrade or should I contact them?

You could get upgraded to a balcony, but that is very unlikely. If the cruise line has empty balconies they may just lower the price a little in a flash sale and they could fill very fast. If you are looking for an upgrade you could phone if you booked through them or your TA and find out where you stand.

There is always a slim chance of an upgrade. Most are within the type cabin, ie from a low category Ocean View to a higher category Ocean View. Upgrades to a different type cabin are rare.

 

If you are upgraded, you may get a call offering you the upgrade. However, often there is no option offered. Some people find out when they board.

Don't count on it unless you booked a guarantee. Free upgrades don't happen much anymore. In my 66 cruises, I've been upgraded once. Seeing that there are still cabins left in your category, they're not going to upgrade passengers who didn't book via a guarantee.

The cruise line will most likely try to sell balcony rooms last minute at a discount. If you want an upgrade you will almost always have to pay for it.
