Anyone been there lately? Carnival had a deal last time we were there.

I don't know if they still feature Kay's in the shopping talks and printed info, but I hope that you do realize that those mentions and printed guides are actually paid advertising for the shops.

 

Featured businesses pay what can be up to a six-figure amount to the shopping guide organization (which, itself, pays a large amount to the cruise line), and then pays an additional significant commission when there is a buyer.

 

That's why shops ask if you are on a cruise ship or are in the 'lucky cabin'.

 

They owe a percentage back to the shopping guide people.

 

Why do the shops report their sales and pay the percentage?

 

The ships offer guarantees for purchases from ship recommended shops. If people come back and register purchases that aren't reported by the shops -- trouble.

 

I hope that you find a great deal on your cruise, but I would suggest that you don't limit your shopping to just the recommended shops and their 'deals'.
