Lake of Albano and Castelgandolfo

Recommended Posts

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been to the Lake of Albano and Castelgandolfo (the latter of which was the Pope's summer residence). I have 4/5 hours to kill on the day of return from our cruise. Two members of my family group have been to Rome a number of times in the past and I am looking at alternatives. I already have a minibus booked... I just need to decide where to go!!

Would it be worth our while heading out to the Lake (it does look very pretty) for a leisurely lunch before we head home to reality? Or should I stick with a whistlestop tour of Rome? All input appreciated. Thanks :)

Went there a few years back,on a coach tour so can't say how we got there!! It was lovely,we only spent an hour or so looking at the view of lake Albano which is an old crater. Not far from there we went to a place called Villa De'ste which was marvelous had lots of manmade waterfalls and fountains around an old Mansion.Well worth a visit,I think they served meals too. Not sure where it was exactly. I wrote Tivoli Hills in my diary,I suppose you could google the name and find its location.
