maryww Posted April 17, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2005 I'm trying to book a tour & need to know the time difference. THANK YOU!!!
ScubaMare Posted April 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2005 Check with your ship to see if they switch to local time when in port. If you're leaving out of Miami and the ship stays on its point of departure time, then Cozumel will be one hour BEHIND the ship time.
solita Posted April 17, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2005 All ships (Carnival included) stay with departure port time no matter where they are. All tours are conducted on ship time. Since Miracle sails out of Tampa, you will always be on Eastern time. So if your tour departs at 11 am, that is 11 am ship time and 10 am Cozumel time. ScubaMare Posted April 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2005 All ships (Carnival included) stay with departure port time no matter where they are. I don't think that's nesessarily the rule of thumb for all cruiselines and ships. I have heard of some that will switch over to port of call time but it is at the captain's discretion and can vary from ship to ship or week to week. It's probably safest to assume that your ship stays on port of departure time but I have heard of some that switch over once they get into port. Jenna1983 Posted April 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2005 What time is it in Cozumel now? Are they two hours or one hour behind. The East coast is on Eastern Daylight Time.
98Charlie Posted April 18, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 18, 2005 Cozumel is currently 1 hour behind Eastern US. They are on the Central Time Zone and observe Daylight Savings time with the same change-over dates as we have. Try http://www.timeanddate.com for more time zone information. Last cruise was Tampa, Grand Cayman, Costa Rica, Panama, Cozumel and Tampa. While none of the ports had the same time as Tampa, we stayed on Tampa time EXCEPT for Cozumel where we changed our clocks so that ship time and shore time matched. We assumed that the change could be explained in two words: Carlo's and Charlie's  If the times were not the same, some of the patron's might think that they have another hour of "party time" only to see their ship cresting the horizon as they head back to the pier. As far as booking excursions, the tour operator should be aware of the ships arrival time (which may vary due to weather and other events). alex687 Posted April 18, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 18, 2005 Cozumel is in the Central time zone but at all ports with Carnival they maintain the same time from where they departed from and they will remind you of that so stay on ships time and you wont go wrong ..Happy sailing
CozSally Posted April 18, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 18, 2005 Alex is correct. Carnival is the only cruiseline that is totally consistent about this. They remain on the time of their departure port. With other cruiselines you really have to post on the forum of that cruiseline and find someone who sailed your itinerary recently. Even then it could be different. IslandJim Posted April 18, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 18, 2005 Be sure to check your ship time vs. your tour times. It might be that a tour arranged and sold by your ship is stated on ship time and not local time. Other service sellers however use local time for tour times. It causes some confusion as we have fishing charter and snorkel tour groups come one and two hours early very often. Some of the information you have read here is maybe partially correct.
