World Gallery Posted February 6, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2012 We are consideting the ship's tour to Porvoo because they do a tour that seems to only be offered through the ship, The Savijarvi Mansion (horse breeding farm). There were only 2 reviews on NCL website for this tour and one mentioned that everything in Porvoo was closed on Sunday. We are more interested in visiting the horse breeding farm but would like to know beforehand if most things in Porvoo will be closed on Sunday, June 24th. The ship tours states you have free time in Porvoo. Ship's tours are always a last resort. Our first choice here is the Ice Hotel (Unique Lapland) but they do not have their summer hours yet but think that they will probably be closed. Since we have kids (ages 11-18), the horse farm seems like a good option. The 2 days before are Russia and they are going to be tired of museum and churches. Ultima Thule Posted February 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2012 Shops are allowed to be open on Sundays in Finland during summer from noon onwards. But June 24th is indeed a very bad time for shopping in Finland as its the day after Midsummer Day (when the shops are closed). So many shops will probably take the opportunity to keep close all weekend. http://matkailu.porvoo.fi/en http://www.savijarvigard.com/english.asp
World Gallery Posted February 7, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted February 7, 2012 I was afraid of that. I knew about that holiday. Does anyone know if Porvoo would be worth going to even if the shops are closed? Our main focus is the horse farm but I guess part of the tour description on NCL wouldn't be accurate because it includes free time shopping in Porvoo.
