Voyager cabin problem...what can I expect from RCI?

Recommended Posts

Our cabin on the Radiance creaked at night too....especially on windy/rocky wave nights....the sound was a bit annoying, but there is nothing that can be done about it. I think the creaking is a normal sound you'd hear simply because the ship is constantly moving. IMHO this is one area that does not require anything on RCI's part. Sorry.

I, personally, hope you get something out of it. Perhaps a discount on a future cruise, or at the very least, a letter of apology...that's only good business on RCI's part. I hate when people automatically defend big business. A person's vacation should be enjoyable. Please let us know what, if anything, they do for you.

Perhaps their 14 month old kept their neighbors up all night during the first 5 nights, or cried throughout the day and this was payback time ;) ;)

Just kidding, OF COURSE

person really expects something because their cabin "creaked." Our cabins have creaked on every cruise we have been on. They are built to withstand the stress of motion of the seas and hopefully 70 foot waves. Thus the walls, ceilings, etc. move. On our first cruise my husband spent the first night trying to stuff his socks in the places he thought was causing the creaking, thus he kept me awake all night. I told him if he couldn't deal with it to go find a place on deck to sleep so I could sleep in the cabin. That was 9 cruises ago.

Hopefully RCI will ignore these people and they will move to another cruise line with ships that don't creak.

On one of our cruises we had a cabin beneath the casino. No problem until the last night when there was a lot of scraping noises as I assume they were cleaning, moving chairs, etc. I had no problem sleeping but my wife did. It never occurred to us then nor would it now to ask for any compensation. We learned to bring earplugs since then. I suggest you do the same.

On the Navigator last month, I began to hear a noise in the evenings which turned out to be the TV squeaking on the movable base. (it pulls out and swivels, for those of you who are wondering what I am talking about...)

Rather than call someone and complain, I took out the extra towels and washcloths and solved the problem myself -- proceeding to stuff them under the platform until the base couldn't possibly move or squeak! (Needless to say, I am certain the stewardess wondered what the method to my madness was, as they were removed each morning! Thankfully, I had my system down by the 2nd night!)

I hate to say it, but I doubt -- and wouldn't expect -- you would receive any compensation for your displeasure. As was mentioned by another member, a ship DOES move with the ocean, and all sounds associated with the like can't possibly be hushed. Unfortunately, the cruiselines would be giving out thousands of dollars in credits should they monitarily (credit or cash) compensate passengers for such. I think that just the fact that they moved you to another cabin was a generous act on their behalf...

I would use this as a learning experience and take earplugs (and possibly sleeping pills) in the future...

On my last cruise we were upgraded to a Royal Suite.

And, no, I don't have a clue why.

But guess what?????

The widescreen flat TV in the bedroom CREAKED!!!!

What a nerve---upgrade me to a suite that I could never possibly afford in real life----and they saddle me with a squeaky TV!!!

Geeez.

Well of course my vacation was totally ruined.

And stupid me:o never asked for compensation.

Live and learn I always say.

Wait until they try to pull something like that again. I will not stand for it. I will demand they give back my original teeny weeny room.

I'll show them.

We had cabin 9253 on the AOS. I hated this cabin. Don't ever get this cabin!

It creeked every night! The noise was actually coming from the walls, so I couldn't put towels around the TV to shut the cabin up. In the ship's defense, our seas were rough though, and I attributed it to the fact that we were on A MOVING SHIP .... that really was moving)!

It was located next to the invisible washing machine. That's the only way to describe the sloshing sound of water going from one side to the other. The pursers desk said it was pipe maintenance (that just happened to go on all week?).

Our shower had mold in it. As a result, my pinky toe had to see the OTC doctor. Its fine now, thanks for holding your breath :)

... I'm not going to write a letter to demand compensation. What good would it do, really? Instead, I'm posting here to let all of my CC friends know NOT TO BOOK THIS STUPID CABIN! :)

... an ounce of prevention .... :)

p.s. - How were we able to sleep with all of this noise? Naren could sleep through a sonic blast. I, on the other hand, always take earplugs with me, because a church mouse whispering under the bed could wake me up, and Naren likes to snore while sleeping.

Same thing happened to me in PH2 on Carnival in March. I did the same thing you did with towels...worked fine and the steward left them for the duration. (I guess Bob Dickinson had the same problem when last he used the suite?)

Since it was such a stress on my delicate sensibilities, my next cruise is on RCCL...that'll show Carnival for giving me a squeaky TV in the Owner's Suite!

Funny thing. We just returned from NOS 04/09 sailing and on the final night our cabin creaked too. Actually..it was more than that..because they collected our bags at midnight...the empty hangers were swaying and crashing into one another in addition to the creaking. What did I do? Took the hangers down so they didnt crash into each other! Then I turned on the iPod just high enough to cover the sound of the creaking and slept like a baby. Compensation never entered my mind.

Of course, now that I think about it...How dare they supply my room with hangers that can move and sway and bang into one another...?

Husband is calling tomorrow. What can we expect in return for the inconvenience? We are really tired and the baby was unimaginably cranky on the flight home re: no sleep.

/QUOTE]

What can be said? Ships move. Movement causes things to rub against each other. OK pervs, that's not what I meant ;). And that friction can cause "creaks". And the rougher it is the more creaking you'll get. I think it's all just a part of being on a ship.

We were on Radiance in January, 2004. Our balcony stateroom on deck 7 was incredibly creaky. We chalked it up to rough weather. It didn't occur to us to complain or ask to be moved - what if we lost our balcony in a move? We also figured that if our room was doing it, chances were that other rooms would do it too. We are away again on Serenade on May 7th, and after reading this thread, I am going to get some ear plugs - what a great idea.
