elaine5 Posted February 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2012 We are in port port July 7-7. We have been to Pisa, but kids want to climp the Tower. Is there another town we can combine that passes thru Pisa---we have done Lucca, so other optoins? I also think Florence is cramming too much in. thanks, Elaine
euro cruiser Posted February 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2012 You could go to Montecatini Terme (change trains at Lucca). Less than a mile from the train station is the funicular that takes you up to Montecatini Alto. It's a nice little village but there's not much to do up there but eat. However, you could have a great lunch then take the funicular back down. Another option would be Pistoia, although it might be further than you want to go. There's a lot to see in the centro storico there (museums, churches, etc.) Or Vinci, the home of Leonardo. There's a good museum there dedicated to him with full size models of many of his inventions. This is a little more difficult to get to because you need to take the train to Empoli, then a bus about six or seven miles to Vinci. Once you're there, however, the town is very small and walkable.
