TimTunison Posted February 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2012 We're sailing on Liberty of the Seas on March 31st. We've never been to Belize before. Can someone tell me about the port? Is there a beach nearby? We're traveling with our 6-year-old daughter and many of the shore excursions are 8+. What should we do? Thanks!
T_Bone2012 Posted February 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2012 Read some of the posts on the "ports of call" section /Caribbean / Belize - there are lots a good ideas. You actually anchor about 5 miles off shore and have to take a tender to shore.
BND Posted February 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2012 It's also not a good idea to go out on your own. The port is fenced off from the city for a reason and security is pretty high. We went to Altun Ha mayan ruins. Not sure if there's an age limit for that. I know snorkeling is good there, but there really aren't any beaches close by as the shoreline is rocky and not sandy. preb Posted February 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2012 Cave tubing is one of the most popular excursions in Belize. We did it with my daughter when she was about that age and had a great day. It's not a wander around on your own port of call. :)
missymatt Posted February 8, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Took a private tour to Goff's Caye. Google it. It was the best excursion we ever took.
1948buddy Posted February 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2012 You might check out Bannister island beach getaway. We are trying it in March on the Mariner. They pick you up directly from the ship. On our reservation, it is called Private Island beach getaway.
seaofblue Posted February 8, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Belize is beautiful--but this is one port that I always book through the ship--as above poster stated--Bannister Island is nice--Belize also has a zoo--all of the animals are native to Belize and are in their natural habitats. scremers Posted March 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2012 We are on this same cruise leaving the 31st and my daughter is 13. We are doing Bannister Island. We figured it was safest and most relaxing.
Mom2B&Z Posted March 17, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2012 I would echo the comments about needing to plan an excursion for Belize. We often plan to walk off the ship and see what happens, but I wouldn't suggest doing that in Belize. We did the tour to Lamanai with our children, who were 4 and 6.5 yrs at the time. Yes it was a long day, but the tour is phenomenal and you get to see quite a bit of the country on the way to and from the ruins. If history and museums aren't your thing, this may not be a good choice, but I wouldn't automatically discount this tour.
