SCATULO Posted February 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2012 We have booked a cruise and have up until 75 days before the cruise (Feb 2013) to cancel and get back a full refund. If we decide to not go on the cruise will i be able to get a full refund (or at least most) of the cost of the travel insurance? I have looked into Travelguard and Travelex and both of them give you a 10-15 day window after purchase to cancel for a full refund minus a small service fee. I recall seeing another insurance co that will offer you a full refund anytime before your trip but i cannot recall the company name.

CSA used to do that years ago -- insure your cruise and if you cancel it before the cruise line levied any penalties you could cancel the insurance also with a full refund -- no harm, no foul. But they have changed to a system where you don't even have to buy a policy until that final payment date and you're still eligible for the pre-existing condition coverage, etc. So their reasoning is: Why should you be forced to buy a policy when there's no risk of loss in order to get the pre-ex coverage? As for the other insurers that force you to buy a policy even when you have no risk of loss in order to get pre-ex coverage, they're pretty good about moving your premium to a replacement trip but they won't give you the money back.
