southern caribbean snorkel spots

we are going to St Croix, St Lucia, St Maarten, Antigua, and Barbados in Dec. We are planning to bring our own snorkel gear. Does anyone know of good snorkeling places that we could get to on our own close to the cruise port like off a beach or something?

We take our own snorkel gear and my wife doesn't SCUBA, so I replied to another posting too like this: Firstly,You will need a cab/bus ride or a walk usually, Secondly, you don't want to get robbed. thirdly, you probably want it hassle-free. My answer....take a 'catamaran tour' to snorkel spots. It's pretty cheap actually, it's escorted..they get you to the A++ spots. But, to be honest...yes I've snorkeled within 1000/ft of our ship and had a great time too. GOOGLE up TripAdvisor or LonelyPlanet for the low-down on 'wuzzup' in the Islands. Had the honor of snorkeling Buck Island at St Croix. Magnificent coral and sea life. The "trail" is like being in a cathedral.

 

Barbados is famous for "swimming with the turtles". Virtually all the snorkel trips include the turtles.

 

The other ports you list, with the exception of St Maarten and Antigua, are all first rate for snorkeling by boat.

 

St Maarten snorkeling is "good" to "fair. However, Capt Alan is one of the best (read most fun) operators I've ever used. He makes a snorkel trip worthwhile.
