Which Area for Better Night Life?

We are flying in early for our cruise and the husband and kids want to check out the local hot spots at night. Would we be better off staying in the Old San Juan area like the Sheraton or along Isla Verde area closer to the Intercontinental? We've done Old San Juan a number of times and I'd like to have a day on the beach after traveling, so need some info to convince the rest of the family!

I personally didn't find much for night life in Old San Juan. There may be a few restaurants that may have some shows, and I'm sure you can find info on those and what nights of the week they'd have them.

We were in Condado the last Sunday of the month, and there was a concert in a plaza that was very well attended. It was classified as "jazz" but it was definitely more latino than jazz.

That's been my experience in OSJ too. We did find one Salsa Club a few years ago but it didn't get moving and groving until after 1am and then stayed going all night long. Not up to that for this trip.

We've decided to stay in Isla Verde area, close to the Intercontinental. Hoping somebody has some info on nightclubs around there?

Hi AZPam! I am a local from San Juan, actually living in Isla Verde. :D The best nights are at San Juan Hotel and Casino, but only Friday and Saturday. (some times they have something Thursday. There is another place, Beats Sports Bar and Grill...this one is close to the Ritz Carlton. (Is at the Isla Verde mall).

Also, if you want to just relax at the beach at night and have some drinks, you can go to Alambique beach(just walk from the Intercontinental...and at the first block turn right to the beach. Very relaxing place to be mainly from 6-11pm.

Hope this help. :D

Castro,

I'm not sure if you will receive this reply (so anyone is free to reply... please!)...

We are travelling to San Juan and need a hotel for one night post-cruise. Although we would love to stay in a resort for $100 (LOL!), we know we're looking at $250-300. With that said, where would you recommend staying if these were your must-haves in order of importance (with the assumption that the hotel is clean, safe):

1. On the ocean (it will be our last day seeing the ocean)

2. Nice Pool... we will probably spend 1/2 of our day here

3. "Close" to the airport and Cruise terminal so we don't have to pay a ton for a cab.

4. Can leave the hotel and walk to... anything (not picky). I would prefer to be close to some authentic restaurants, but I am open. Paying $10 for juice and a bagel at the hotel doesn't sound great!

5. Proximity to a Starbucks??! Is there a Starbucks anywhere in San Juan? Or a coffee shop the locals flock to?

These are the hotels we've considered: Gran Melia, Intercontinental (heard the rooms are a bit dated for the price), Marriot Courtyard Isla Verde. Totally open to any recommendations... but we won't spend more than $300/night. (ie: no Ritz or St. Regis :()

If you are willing to walk less than a block to the beach, consider Embassy Suites. That's where we are staying, which is bascially right across the street from Intercontinental. We've stayed there before and it was very nice, especially the price, which included a full breakfast and happy hour.

Hello stellababy!

Well....The hotel that fit EVERYTHING...LOL...is San Juan Hotel and Casino. They have a nice pool...they have a Starbucks...and you can walk to the beach...and walk around. Also...from the Pier...you will need to pay a cab(most probably will cost you near $20.00..unless you want to wait for the public bus (0.75 cents), but all depends what day you are arriving from the cruise/departing to your home. If is a weekday..(Monday through Friday...from San Juan Hotel, you can go outside to a bus stop...and for only 0.75 cents pp you can arrive to the airport. Try San Juan hotel and Casino...and..if the price is too high for 1 night...then...the Embassy will be the best option...like Azpam said.
