LV Tapper Posted July 21, 2005 #27 Share Posted July 21, 2005 Looking to switch hotels in Istanbul. Presently booked at the Swissotel on the Bosphurus. Any suggestions? Should we book a hotel closer to Taksim Square or remain at the Swissotel? All info about Istanbul will be appreciated. It's our first time there. nparmelee Posted July 29, 2005 #29 Share Posted July 29, 2005 LV Tapper, What did you want to be close to? We're looking at the Empress Zoe (a lot of stairs, www.emzoe.com, but we need to work off the cruise food) for our post cruise stay next June. It's very close to the sites we want to see. www.tripadvisor.com has been very helpful to us for gathering reviews on hotels. Let us know what you choose and how you like it. stew300 Posted July 29, 2005 #30 Share Posted July 29, 2005 We stayed in the old town. Very close to the Blue Mosque. Sorry, I can't remember the name but highly recommend staying in that area.
drwong Posted July 29, 2005 #31 Share Posted July 29, 2005 If you don't mind staying in the lap of luxury, several cruisemates and I just booked some $99 rooms at the 5-star Conrad Istanbul (the luxury line of Hilton Hotels) - you can find great deals on the Hilton.com website - last year we were able to book $99 rooms at the 4-star Athens Hilton after our cruise. There are a couple of Hiltons closer to the airport, but if you can stay in a Conrad for that rate (the discount might be limited to HHonors, AAA, and AARP members), I'd recommend doing it. The Conrad doesn't appear to be that far from the action, looking at a map, and even then, you'll probably be using taxis anyways. Richard
